Dissapointment is life. You go through high school thinking it is going to better in college then you work hard in college and you say get through it and it will be better then you get in the real world and you wish you were back in the college days. Then one day your eyes don't work well anymore, your muscles don't work, and your peter can't get hard. Then you die

Channel all your energy into prevailing next time. Analyze your weaknesses that prevented you from achieving your goal and methodically eliminate them. But count the cost. Anything is achievable but sometimes it is better to settle, depending on your priorities.

oh oh, I'm an expert at this [/raises hand]

Day one: roll into a ball in the corner of your room, don't talk to anyone, don't watch tv, just wallow in the self loathing pity party with no distractions. Cry if you're man enough, but don't come on here and admit it.....

Day two - twenty four: Say f*ck it! and go get shitfaced. Try to hurt yourself while doing it. Start alienating friends and possibly endanger your career too.

Somewhere between day three and twentyfive: wake up and be so glad you lived through the night/days/weeks before, swear you'll never be that stupid again, then kick out the livestock you brought home and go take a shower you nasty ass.

Good advice. Work hard to put yourself in a position to DOMINATE the next time whatever occurance happens. I've found that decisively accomplishing whatever it was that disappointed you is very good therapy.

Okay, I'll tell you what it is now. I got a bad grade on a paper. I didn't include all the sources I cited in the paper into my bibliography and it really hurt. Want to know how bad it hurt? I'll be lucky if I get a B+ in this class now. And I really need a good grade in this class. Why? Because 1.) it's my Law and Politics class for my Law and Politics minor 2.) the professor is a really good guy who I think can write a recommendation for me and 3.) because I need a good GPA so I can go to a really good school after this current school.

So, I'm disappointed. I'll never achieve my dreams. I will be nothing in life. I will be living in a trailer, drinking Pabst's Blue Ribbon, inhaling butthash and living off hot pockets.

Am I being ridiculous? Not one bit.

This is barely a speed bump in the pathway to your dreams, unless your goal is to work for Rain Man Enterprises, in which case Pabst isn't so bad. Seriously, consider it a cheap lesson in the risk of sloppy scholarship. Go talk to your professor about your goals and future plans. Admit that you really screwed up the citations but that you are interested in his thoughts on the rest of the paper. You could still salvage the recommendation letter.

And consider purchasing a student version of Endnotes and learning how to use it. It is a little bit of a pain to use, but will make your citations and bibliography much easier and more accurate.

He does give comments on the paper. The biggest problem was the citation. I screwed up and I deserve this grade. I know how to do everything correct but a busy schedule caught up to me. I've had this professor before and will have him again. I know him pretty well, have visited with him during office hours, after class etc.

Here's my plan: over the summer, I'm going to redo this paper. I'm going to make it beautiful and hand it to him and apologize for this mess.

You better get it done earlier than that if you want to rectify the B+. Its very difficult to change grades after they've been submitted.

Either way, shit happens. There is more to academic success and development than just grades.

If you go start the world on fire with leadership and involvement as well as an internship or two, you are much more likely to go somewhere with a 3.9 than some jerkoff who does nothing but gets a 4.0.

The important thing is you recognize the inefficiency and take the necessary step to rectify the problem for the rest of your academic life.

I'd still do it before finals. He will likely lose top of mind if you wait a couple weeks. Their lives become dominated by grading finals, figuring grades, and dealing with the undoubtedly overly beaurocratic ways of submitting grades. I believe the most value you can gain is before he forgets about it. Besides it sounds like you just need to add a few citations.

But again, if it were me, I'd focus my attention to bettering yourself than the paper.

Whatever happens, if this is your biggest mistake, you will be fine. I promise.

Here's some advice, don't do it.

As far as turning in the paper next semester what do you expect to accomplish? You screwed up some cites and got the grade you deserved. It's not the end of the world and I guarantee you the professor didn't think twice about the grade you received therefore it won't mean jack to him to receive a random revised paper in the fall. I'd follow Buehler's advice and concentrate on some extracurricular activities rather than spending time brown-nosing.

I am not sure I would bother with fixing the citations since it won't mean anything towards your grade or really give you much feedback with your writing skills if you already know what you did wrong. Probably worth an office visit at least to see if your professor thinks this will be worth your time as well as his. You may be best focusing your efforts on your next class with him.

Depending on your area of study and the professor, I would be surprised if your professor would hold this against you with respect to a letter of recommendation.
