<!--Long Description--><!--[COMMENTS, 3000 CHARACTERS]-->Kathleen Frances "Kay" Bowers Vahldick was born September 7, 1943, and died of cancer May 5, in her home in rural Springfield. Kay started her career as a teacher in Willard, Mo., staying there a total of 10 years, after moving to Memphis and coming back to Springfield. She became a Realtor in 1978, and was with Murney Associates Realtors for several years before her death. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Carl Vahldick, of the home; her son, Alex Vahldick of Kansas City and granddaughters, Payton and Mahlorie Vahldick; her son, Eric Vahldick of Keller, Texas and his wife, Jill and granddaughter Sage Vahldick; brothers, John Bowers of Owassa, Okla., Steve Bowers, St. Louis, Cindy Wilson, Buffalo, and Jan Douglas, Chandler, Okla. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Aileen Bowers of Willard, and grandson Carson Vahldick. Granddaughters Payton and Mahlorie often talk about Grandma taking them to Wonders of Wildlife. She bought all four grandkids passes, and when Payton and Mahlorie were in town, it was one of their favorite things to do with her. Granddaughter Sage fondly remembers riding around the lake on the family houseboat with her brother Carson and grandma "KayKay". Kay's sons Eric and Alex have great memories of family vacations to Florida and to the Bahamas, of how their mom had a sense of adventure and learned to scuba dive with them. They also remember her close friendship with Bob and Colleen Walpert, and their great times traveling around the Carribbean together. Kay's family wishes to express special thanks to Clara and Bill Boyd, and to Cathy and Joe Russell, who provided wonderful support at home to Kay over the last few months. Also, her sons have loving thanks for Kays coworkers at Murney Associates Realtors. They all worked to keep our dad well taken care off and well-fed as he focused his energy caring for our mom. Visitation will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home North at 3506 N. National Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, in Maple Park Cemetery, 300 W. Grand, with Robert Kerley officiating. The family asks that memorials in Kays honor be sent to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks, 330 N. Jefferson Ave., Springfield, Mo. 65806.

<!--Long Description--><!--[COMMENTS, 3000 CHARACTERS]-->My friend Kay Vahldick died May 5. She was probably the nicest person I ever met, and with that great spirit came a glorious sense of humor. She could roll off a great crack about somebody and hit the target right on, but it was never mean. It was just funny. And fun. That's what I will remember most about Kay. She was so funny, so kind. She was a superb businesswoman, an unequalled mother, a divine friend. She was my English teacher in high school, and she was the first person to tell me I had a talent for writing, and that I should lean toward social issues. If I could be like anyone, it would be like Kay Vahldick. -Sarah Overstreet
