View Full Version : Chiefs Who's going to be our #2 WR?

The Chiefs may pick up someone after June 1, but right now the candidates are pretty much all inexperienced n00bs. Who will emerge?

By the way, you forgot to list the other WR we drafted (out of Utah, I think). Or was that an intentional omission?

I did forget, but he's a very unlikely candidate. He was drafted to be a KR/PR.

I don't know about the contract stuff, so don't' beat up on me for asking, but is there a chance we would bring Kennison back for a lower salary?

And you "don't play the old guy" people can kiss my earth-destroying asteroid. I think with a young QB it wouldn't hurt to have a guy at WR who knows the playbook and the routes.

Well... uhhhh... Webb did play here last year so he probably knows (at least some of) our playbook and we just drafted Franklin so we are pretty much obligated to like him more than the other guys. In his favor, Franklin is really tall and really fast. Plus, I think he invented electricity or something.

Seems unlikely that the Chiefs would bring Kennison back, given the massive youth movement. Probably a bad idea anyway, given his production the last two years.

Chan Gailey had better be a genious because the combination of a patchwork rookie O-line, a QB "controversy" involving two QBs nobody outside of KC or Alabama has ever heard of, and targets like Sippio, Webb, Darling and Franklin opposite a 2nd year man, our O is going to be rough.

I hope Colquitt is getting plenty of rest.

My buddy has been up at Utah State since Kevin Robinson played their. He said the guy was the best player on the team since his sophmore year. Again, this is Utah State. I told him he was drafted to be KR/PR but he said the guy is awesome and he would have no doubt with the Chiefs current line of WRs that Robinson could take the starting spot next to Bowe. Take it for what it's worth but my friend has picked several players to go onto be excellent NFL players.

I just hope to god it isn't Jeff Webb...he's just big and slow and I don't think he's anything more than the last WR that makes a team special teams guy.

Darling and Franklin are the the most likely with Robinson likely always looking at being a returner and a 3 or 4.

You seriously believe Brodie Croyle and company are going to throw for 3,500 yards in a Herm Edwards offense behind a new OL that will probably have a couple of weak links? Think about it. There is almost no way that could happen.

There is almost no way that could happen.I don't think 3500's that tall an order. Consider last year, with injuries rampant at every offensive position, an o-line that gave up 54 sacks, and a WR and QB both starting their first NFL games. All that and still just under 3200 yards through the air...

Yep. That's him.

Information released today by the California State Athletic Commission verified that Johnnie Morton tested positive for anabolic agents on his June 2 pre-fight drug test. Morton was part of the K-1 portion of the co-promoted Dynamite!! USA event at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. He was knocked out 38 seconds into the bout by Bernard Ackah.

Morton’s test results showed a T/E ratio score of 83.9, which indicates an elevated level of Testosterone. According to CSAC Executive Director Armando Garcia, the standard for an athlete is 6. Morton’s test results for “Drugs of Abuse” or recreational drugs have not yet come back.

Following the bout with Ackah, Morton refused to take the required post-fight drug test and was immediately placed on suspension and had his fight purse withheld by Garcia. “I don’t want to hold back his pay,” said Garcia, “but I’m waiting for him to answer the letter I sent him. He received a letter giving him ten days to explain as to why he refused to take the post-fight test. He is on indefinite suspension and I withheld his pay.”

According to Garcia, he is the first fighter in the state to refuse the post-fight test. “It’s a violation of our rules and brings discredit to our commission. No one has refused except him.”

I don’t know who the 2nd receiver will be, but the 5th receiver and return man will be KC's 2nd, 6th round draft pick, Kevin Robinson from Utah State.

He was the top rated punt return man in the country with an 18.9 yard average in 2007.
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2007&div=4&rpt=IA_playerpuntret&site=org
Kevin was the 6th rated kick return man in the country with a 29.3 yard average.
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2007&div=4&rpt=IA_playerkickret&site=org
He was 8th in all purpose yards with 193.08 yards per game average.
http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2007&div=4&rpt=IA_playeraprun&site=org
Kevin Robinson had 4 touchdowns on special teams, 3 kickoffs and 1 punt return. Also add in the fact that he had 55 receptions, 640 yards, and 5 touchdowns as a receiver. He has also been a successful receiver and return man throughout his 4 college career and is the NCAA record holder for all purpose yardage.

B.J Sams will be at a disadvantage in winning the job, with really not having a position besides return man. I think Kevin Robinson will be a nice 2008 replacement for Eddie Drummond.

From CBS Sports – “There may be bigger names in college football, but the statistics prove it - there isn't a more consistent big-play threat in the country than Robinson. At the end of the 2007 season, Robinson became the NCAA career all-purpose yards per play record holder with a 16.16 average on 6,479 career yards in 401 plays. Robinson, or "K-Rob," is a very good athlete with the blend of initial quickness, acceleration and top end speed to help an NFL team early in his career as a receiver and return specialist - a position from which he has generated nine scores on a combination of punts and kickoffs - including one during the East West Shrine Game. “

I think…
1. Dwayne Bowe – No doubt
2. Will Franklin – KC wants to use his speed to stretch the field and open things up for Bowe and Gonzalez on shorter routes.
3. Devard Darling – probably play as much as Franklin.
4. Bobby Sippio – beats Jeff Webb out because of special teams.
5. Kevin Robinson – return kicks and work as slot receiver - Did I mention that he can also run the ball on reverses?

Someone needs to start a new thread for discussion on the position battle they're most interested in watching this year. (I can't post new threads, too much of a n00b here I guess...)

Oh! Oh! Me! Me! (Raising hand frantically.)

1. Dwayne Bowe - Herm's and Gailey's prototype #1
2. Devard Darling - The teams most experienced receiver and fits the mold.
3. Jeff Webb - This is the year he has to show he can do the job.
4. Bobby Sippio - Best hands on the team.
5. Will Franklin - Will see the field, but may not be active all games.
6. Kevin Robinson - Will be the main punt returner for the team.

Nonsense! C. Thomas and Snoop Minnis were much worse.
