Yea usually the bang for your buck in HS portraits is stronger than the wedding stuff. It is rare I have heard about a lot of people pushing THAT much for it but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. I am still working on infrastructure of the website to be able to just throw up the photos to people to buy prints so right now I am just doing a sitting fee with a CD at the end, while I get a good hold of the process.

I actually had 2 kids to buy for, so that's why I was thinking that. I'll give you a big hint though: If you can come up with a slide show of the pictures set to some generic inspirational rock tune and set it up on a big screen, you'll sell a shitload of pictures. A lot more than if you just put them in an album or whatever.

I have read a lot about sales going through the roof when presented the right way. A lot of of folks with studios get a huge ass nice TV and offer some drinks and tell them to sit on the comfy chairs and watch the dollar signs fade in and off of that screen.

Zach is going to get his rolodex full of prelegal women... and just wait....

Good luck with this, man. When you get it down... let me know and Ill give you some google AdWords suggestions. Im the master of that... key niche terms that won't cost you a ton, but give you great results.

The pics looks good, man. Keep rockin

You have a very nice sense of composition and balance, Mr. |Zach|. You use lines and patterns very well, also ... subtle and slightly unconventional. Prop things.

I wonder if you're purposefully using semiotics or visual cognition techniques.

Is there a way to leverage the money I make on Google adsense on ZachIsHere.com to be used automatically for buying up Adwords for when I get ZCPhotography.com redone? There are a lot of things cooking on the backend right now.

What? no mottled backdrop? No thumb on the chin, head slightly tilted with a pensive expression? No fake bookcase and fern? And where's the one with the kid looking forward with his smaller, ghosted profile in the background (I called that the "Tambourine man") These are not the high school portraits I remember.

Nice stuff. Good luck.

It would be nice if that was the case... but they are essentially 2 different accounts. You fund AdWords with your CC or Debit card, and place a daily budget for your keyword. When you get your adsense check just place it in your budget... but you have to manage that.

It is encouraging because it is not my natural style. I am opposite of a lot of photogs because I am more comfortable getting something from a non posed candid type of situation. It is tough for me to tell someone what to do but I know it when I see it. Thats why I have previously made most my money on sports, events, architecture, and commercial stuff. A lot of the good people stuff is when they don't know the camera is around. These are pictures from Beerfest around St. Patricks Day.

I was reading some site...I wish I could remember it...it found some of the creepiest examples of that ghosted profile type style that was so popular.

Yea, part of what I am seeing is that I have to pick my customers. I have no props with the year and no backgrounds to throw behind anyone. I don't think that makes for great pictures...if thats your thing thats fine I have a few really strong photographers I can refer you to.

Alot of inspiration from my portraits comes from Nate and Jaclyn Kaiser @ http://www.theimageisfound.com/

Everything they do is amazing...just amazing.

I wanted too, I thought that was going to be a cool gig but the more I dug into that it seems it was almost an industry standard that you bring your own Nikon camera body. I have a Canon and it wasn't gonna be worth getting a whole other camera body. The lines or agencies that I saw without this requirement seemed really shady. Aside from that things started picking up aorund here quite nicely.

Haven't advertised. Even though they were paying jobs these are both kids I know already. Load up with the best camera you can and try to output the best work you can with whatever you have. Use friends family to hone your skill and when you feel confident try to take on some paying jobs. If you talk about your interest in it word of mouth will get you a few jobs...from there you can advertise...Craigslist isn't a bad place to start.

Okay...question...

We paid a pretty penny for our wedding pics. It was probably the biggest expense of our wedding. And for the most part we were ecstatic with what we got.
But the photogs sent the CD with all the pics on it well over a year after the wedding, due to miscommunication.

On many of the pics, we wanted that washed out look (like you have with the girl in the garden). In the album and DVD they made, it looks like that, but they just left them plain on the CD with all the pics on it. Is that process easily accomplished with photoshop or something? I have that program, but hardly ever use it, so I don't know what it would take. There are several pics I'd like to wash out or even make B&W and then have some accents in color (flowers, backgrounds, rings, etc).

I am off to my other job but I will PM you soon and maybe we can work out something for me to do post work on your photos and make some nice stuff from the base photos...nothing expensive...just so a chunk of my time is taken care of. I think you would be surprised at the before and afters with some of these works. Hopefully we can make something work.

It may sound counterintuitive, but I see more emotion in your architectural and environmental stuff than I see from your portraiture.

On the other hand, I understand that you have to get paid so you can subsidize the work that you do best.

Don't get lost in the paycheck. I've seen some really good work from you, Zach.

Well, I'd agree that there's more emotion. But that's what you get when things are natural. Portraits have that big constraint of being planned and the person knowing they're the subject of the photo. Otherwise, they're unaware and products of the environment, which is another thing you saw.

Zach, what camera you have? I have the same thing: I see when things are right but can't get things to turn out that way if I tried.
