I been wanting him to start a game or 2 since last year. If Torre thinks he's ready, then i dont see why he couldnt play. He was tearing it up and was by far the Dodgers best pitcher in spring training. He was tearing it up in the minors. Its his time. Even if he loses. Its his first game at 20 years old. He has a mean ass curve ball. Barry Zito type curve and he throws 97 mph.

Then he gets rocked. They think he's ready. He has to go against someone. If the kid is really a MLB pitcher he can handle it. Personally, i would rather see him against top notch players. This is a good test to see how headstrong he is. If he falls apart and busts a Ryan Leaf, then he's not a good MLB player.

Anyways, for a coach like Torre to call ya up. They must have alot of confidence in the guy.

ESPN:
As the baseball soared through the electrified night, you almost wanted the world to stop spinning -- just for a moment -- so you could digest what was unfolding before your eyes.

It was only one swing of Albert Pujols (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6619)' bat. It was only one baseball, heading for history. It was only one moment in the life of two franchises.

But it was a swing, a baseball, a moment that seemed to change the world.
In an instant, in one click of a camera lens, in one quick gulp of air, in one flash of Albert Pujols' bat, victory dissolved into defeat. Euphoria transformed into disbelief. Eardrum-rattling noise turned to how'd-that-happen silence.

Two years ago he stunk, but last year he was a good player for the stros. At times he dominated in both the set-up and closer role. However he struggled with consistency and sometimes he would give up a big home run or a big inning. Houston decided to move on, but they had to rebuild a completely different team (something like 15 roster players are gone from last year) so the move was understandable. I would take a 2007 Brad Lidge anyday. He has really only had one bad season, so while Pujols may have been a bump in the road, he was hardly a career ender.

Actually the Cubs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and hung on to beat the Dodgers 3-1 last night. Tonight's was a great game with the Dodgers leading 1-0 going into the bottom of the ninth. Zambrano and Lowe both throwing gems. Cubs tied it in the ninth and pulled out the win in the 10th. Brutal. Being a Dodger fan AND a Chief fan is like getting punched in the nuts and then having your mom laugh in your face.

At least teh Lakerz rulez

The thing is, we are going to be getting our Vets back and there is what 100 games left in the season. All they have to do is go on a 8-10 game win streak and they are right there again. I believe it will happen. I have no clue if they will make it into the post season, but they will give it a go. We miss Furcal badly.

Because the Cards proved there September dominance last year during that amazing 1-14 stretch in the middle of a pennant race.

Considering how decimated the Cardinals were by injuries last year, the fact that they stayed competitive as long as they did was impressive.

At least they were spared the humiliation of getting swept out of the playoffs in the first round. You see, for the Cardinals, that would suck. Of course, for the Cubs, it's a milestone achievement.

One man's trash is another man's treasure, I guess.

I'm sorry, but if you go into the bottom of the 9th leading, and at the end of the 9th, you haven't won, YOU HAVE CHOKED.

New to baseball? :shake:

And BTW, I checked the box score from last night's game. LA scored one run in the 4th, Chicago scored 3 in the 7th. So what part of "choked away a late game lead" isn't accurate?

I must admit, I clicked on Monday's game when the Cubs jumped to the 2-0 lead and won 3-1. My bad.

As far as choke goes...do not see it. Losing a 1-0 lead in the 9nth sucks. Saito blew the save. Does it amount to CHOKE??? Hell no! That game was up for grabs the entire night. A 1-0 is about as precarious as they come.

Got no problem with you hating the Dodgers. Just found it kinda funny the way you attempted to describe the series. It was actually some pretty damn good ball. Yes, the Dodgers did get swept. Such is baseball.

So in your opinion every time a team has a 1 run lead and lose the lead it is a choke? One run leads are lost every day in baseball...that is the way the game is.

He never acknowledges that.

Of course, he simply may be unable to comprehend it. Explaining the World Series to Cub fans is like explaining colors to the blind. :D

I never said anything about the World Series. I was only responding to the useless by September nonsense. Even in your World Series year you guys had a terrible September (Nearly blowing a 7 game lead in the last week of September) The Completely Useless By September shirts make me laugh considering it's usually a Cards fan wearing the shirt thinking they have this almighty presence in September.

Cardinals September records the last 5 years:
2007- 13-18
2006- 12-16
2005- 13-13
2004- 16-12
2003- 13-13
September Winning %- .482

Cubs September records the last 5 years:
2007- 17-12
2006- 11-17
2005- 16-11
2004- 16-11
2003- 19-8
September Winning %- .572

LMAO You should get that put on a T-shirt.

The Cubs won the season series from the Cardinals in 2006, too. Put that on a shirt. Of course, my shirt from 2006 says WORLD CHAMPIONS.

Yes. And collapsing at the very end of the game = CHOKING.

Do you really think the closer who pissed the game away walked off the mound feeling like he hadn't choked?

When the freak is Furcal coming back? I need him badly for my fantasy team. Since he's been gone I haven't been able to find a decent replacement.

Collapsing at the end of the game and losing a one run lead are not even remotely close to the same thing. To suggest so is laughable. As I said earlier, the score was 1-0 and the game could not have been tighter unless it was tied. Anyone watching the game knew it could still go either way. This is baseball...if the other team scores to tie it you sure as hell did not "choke". Under your definition basically every team that loses on a given day "choked". That is not the way it is.

Pretty basic actually.

Whatever, Spanky. A closer who can't close is like a field goal kicker who can't kick a field goal. You get paid to do something, and if you don't do it correctly, then you've CHOKED.

That pretty basic. Moron.
