Was wondering what everyone thinks they are? Do your visions include a date when we should bring our troops home? Do we get our hands in that oil after we leave? The Bush administraion has done a poor job of letting us know what direction we are going... just more of the same? Does Bush expect someone else to mop up this mess for him? Go Chiefs!!!

Our top goal is a stable, freedom-based Iraqi state with a government capable of maintaining order that is an ally in the GWoT and a positive example to others in the region of the benefits of civilization.

Secondary goals, from my pov, would be semi-permanent basing for US military similar to that which we have in many other parts of the world and the ability for US contractors to compete on a level playing field for Iraqi development contracts including, but not limited to, those related to the modernization of Iraqi oil infrastructure.

What makes you say that? Even the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/31/AR2008053101927.html) is taking notice of our progress now:

While Washington's attention has been fixed elsewhere, military analysts have watched with astonishment as the Iraqi government and army have gained control for the first time of the port city of Basra and the sprawling Baghdad neighborhood of Sadr City, routing the Shiite militias that have ruled them for years and sending key militants scurrying to Iran. At the same time, Iraqi and U.S. forces have pushed forward with a long-promised offensive in Mosul, the last urban refuge of al-Qaeda. So many of its leaders have now been captured or killed that U.S. Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker, renowned for his cautious assessments, said that the terrorists have "never been closer to defeat than they are now."

Lets all hope this is really nearing the end. Regardless of what side you may be on, a victory would be the best thing for Americans and Iraqis alike.

That would be good news. This is just an editorial however, and I've seen many like it before.

An editorial from an editorial board that has shown no inclination to give the benefit of the doubt to those who advocate for an American victory in Iraq over the past few years.
