This gives Obama a 276-251 victory over McCain, with 11 electoral votes tied.
With Bush's approval in the 30's.... McCain is in pretty good shape.

Here's the map:
Blue states that could go red... Michigan, NH, Conn, Wisconsin
Red States that could go blue... Colorado, NM, Iowa, Inidiana, Ohio, Virginia, S. Carolina
This is going to be a great 5 months!!!

Obama is drilling McCain in Connecticut. It has absolutely 0% chance of going red in November.

I'm well aware of the Rasmussen. It's an outlier given the other state polls. The state won't be close in November.
New Hampshire is a state McCain's more likely to pick off, but given the fact Obama is going to win his share of states between Colorado, Virginia, Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, New Mexico, Nevada, Georgia, the Carolinas, etc. it won't make much of a difference.

What could possibly make you feel good about the Republicans chances this year? Is it how awful Bush has been? The way they got their clocks cleaned in '06? The way the Republicans are losing special elections in heavily red districts?

I'm still on the Obama bandwagon, but those of you celebrating an Obama victory....are way too premature.
Obama has a long, hard road ahead. McCain is not Bob Dole II, and Obama is not a 1996 Bill Clinton.

Bill Clinton, 1992.
No. 1996. Clinton beat Dole in '96...as a revived IMCUMBENT President (from the '94 midterm beat0-down) and as personally likable and more popular than Hillary could imagine in her wildest dreams.

He's comparing Obama's campaign to Clinton's in '92. I've been watching a lot of footage of that election and the similiarities between then and now are pretty striking in terms of the mood of the country.

Just to be on record for the 20th time, Obama takes Florida, Ohio, Colorado, Virginia, Missouri, NH over the states that were red in last election. Easy victory electorially. The House gains will be around 22-25 for the Democrats and the Senate gains will provide a filabuster proof Democratic majority with wins in Conn., Maine, Virginia, N. Carolina, Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska, Minn., Ore.

Mr. Bush and friends have performed that task quite well with little help from Obama.

Nothing to figure out -- damn good President except for that little "keep his fly zippered" issue, which of course the Republicans blew (pun intended) completely out of proportion to derail the Democrats' ability to get things done and furhter their own political purposes (NTTAWWT).

You may still be in the dark about the Clintons' political dirty tricks and their extraordinary narcissism, but there were plenty of Obama worshippers whose light bulbs went off about those things this spring. As for Bill's job performance, my opinion is that he didn't do too much damage to the country thanks to an effective Republican Congress and the paralyzing, self-inflicted scandals that you mention. Of course, there's the not so small matter of letting anti-American jihadism grow unchecked throughout his presidency, but all-in-all, he could have been worse. I suspect that a President Obama, with the help of dominant majorities in Congress, would attempt to outperform him.

I look at two sites mostly for polls. Electoral-vote.com (http://www.electoral-vote.com/)has Obama ahead with 287-227 with 24 tied. It breaks down
Strong Dem (190)
Weak Dem (54)
Barely Dem (43)
Exactly tied (24)
Barely GOP (25)
Weak GOP (78)
Strong GOP (124)
270 Electoral votes needed to win
They also predict Dems to lead in the senate 58-42 and the House 237-198.
Another site is interesting in that the webmaster breaks it down into percentages of probability that a candidate will win in a particular state. Right now they have it Obama 272.5-265.5 with Obama winning the election in 52.3% of probable outcomes. http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/

My prediction!
I think only a disaster on Obama's part could get those kind of numbers. Minnesota has not voted Republican since 1972 and McCain is currently -10. Obama has current leads of 6 points, outside the margin of error, in both Wisconsin and Colorado.
Best possible scenario for each side would be Obama 336 and for McCain 294. That scenario would switch all the states that are within 6 points to the other side. Frankly I think Obama's ceiling is higher. His problem now is to get Hillary's supporters back on his side. They have 5 months to do that. They won't stay mad forever unless their name is denise. If you see states like North Carolina, Mississippi and Texas going blue then its going to be a route. Nevada could be another indicator. If you see McCain losing support amongst conservatives then he could lose several states in the solid Bush south like Virginia, the Carolinas, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. That would mean a landslide.
