Great, another Kevin Costner thread.

Costner's a dickhead.

"Quit trying to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are fascist. Throw some ground balls, it's more democratic..."

I agree. My favorite movie of all time, Field of Dreams, is often called a baseball movie, but I don't think it is. I always equate FOD with father-son relationships.

I am a softy, but everytime I watch FOD, I cry when he realizes that his dad is there, and when they start playing catch. As someone who had a terrible relationship with my father growing up, it really hits home.

Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.

Bullshit is what they should have called it. Susan "ugly ass" Surandon ruined the movie. Even minor leagers are not going to line up for her. Tim Robbins did not even remotely seem like a baseball player.

That is one of the best monologues ever delivered in a movie.

Here are some other quotes:

I'm your new catcher and you just got lesson number one: don't think, it can only hurt the ballclub.

Know what the difference between hitting .250 and .300 is? It's 25 hits. 25 hits in 500 at bats is 50 points, okay? There's 6 months in a season, that's about 25 weeks. That means if you get just one extra flare a week - just one - a gorp... you get a groundball, you get a groundball with eyes... you get a dying quail, just one more dying quail a week... and you're in Yankee Stadium.

Coach: "You guys... you lollygag the ball around the infield. You lollygag your way down to first. You lollygag in and out of the dugout. Do you know what that makes you? Larry?"
Larry: "Lollgaggers!"
Coach: "Lollygaggers."

You probably run across busy streets to kick puppies and steal candy from kids, don't you?
