View Full Version : Misc Got a Ferrari 430 F1 Spider up to 120 yesterday. Amazing!

It was the most exhalarating experience outside of a bedroom I have had in my life. The F1 is the the Formula style transmission which is a up shift paddle on the right and a downshift paddle on the left of the steering wheel.

You basically punch it and when the RPM's hit 7 you hit the paddle on the right. The monster has the roar of a race car.

I drove from Newport Beach to Laguna Beach. I hit 120 and then backed off. It could have done much more needless to say. The rest of the trip I was cruising 10 MPH above the speed limit and would get board and would downshift and punch to go 10 MPH faster for the fun of it and the sound.

When the trip was ending I was in traffic on a 50 MPH road. I didn't get much above 60 but I did get to that speed fast.

It's my brothers car. He had a 355 before which I got on much more aggressively. The pure power and sound of the 430 was off the chart.

If you ever have a chance to drive or rent 1 do it. It is awesome.

(Spider is convertible. Had the top down along the beach with 80 degree weather.)

Here is a picture with the same color except black leather with gray stitching.

There were a lot of tourists in Laguna yesterday and we were getting a lot of stares. He says normally he gets just a few as people are used to them down there.

It was funny how everybody wants to try to race though. A guy in an Escalade was doing his best to keep up with us.

I did 140 mph in a Dodge Lancer on K10 once when I was about 16. That f*cker started shaking horribly right around 130. I look back on that now and wonder what I was thinking. Probably wasn't.

No. His Charger in the early 80's was the 2.2 souped up model. He has always been into cars.

We went out in Laguna the night before and he left his everyday car in town after a few drinks. I followed him home in it the next morning before I gallopped in the 430.

The everyday car is this... the AMG version. That was also very fun to drive.

I topped my bike out at 152 mph, but that was a one time gig, 'cause 120 is moving, 130 is fast, and 150 is just a blur. But of course if you are on a bike and going fast on this site you are a dumbass, but if your in a car you're a god, lol.

Nice ride. I think the fastest i have been in a car was about 125 or so, in a fixed up 69 camaro, damn that was loud.

No, he might not admit it and you might not remember but around 85 he had a black ford exp for a while.

btw, the boy seems to be doing pretty good for himself!

Now that you mention it I do remember the EXP. That was after we split the Toyota Corolla.

He is doing well.

He manages investments for people. He used to work for the same company that I do until a couple of years ago when he and my dad joined a different firm.

Nowhere near a Ferrari, but I was pleasantly surprised at my little GTP's grace under throttle. Was heading back to KC for the 4th, when I came into Blue Springs from the east on 70. That little stretch of congestion just before you hit the big valley before Independence Center was particularly douchebaggy, with folks cutting others off and perverse sign language being exchanged, so as I cleared the crest before the valley, I went out to the fast lane and stepped on it. Less than 1/4 mile later, I looked down and was going 126.

When I drove his 355 it was the only time he said he was scared in the car. From a stop light entering the toll (on ramp) road I passed 3 cars on a curve at 95.

That was fun.

He then told me about how much more power the new car had and said I could go as fast as I want...in a straight line. Turns with the power are where you get into trouble.

At 135 its all fun.

The fastest I have driven was back in '90 in my Moms Turbo Supra. I think I hit 145 (maybe 150). I was on 69 South and the cars a 1/2 mile in front of me were a concern because they were in my lane.

When you are doing 145 and they are doing 60 you tend to come up on them pretty fast.

Buy it if you can. For the money it is the best value for fun vs. $ there is. I don't know if you can tell but in the pic of the Benz there is a Red Vette in the corner.

That is what I was driving all weekend. It has heads up display which is really cool (your dashboard is refelcted on the windshield just below your line of site.)

That is my Dads car. The car has a mean roar too. It is also easy to drive. Top goes up easy.

I am back home now. Deciding between the Volvo and Honda to take my daughter to school tomorrow.

I’ve had my Jeep up to over 115. Didn’t realize it at the time, speedometer read a little over 100 but I found out after putting a radar in it that my speedometer was reading 15 MPH low due to larger tires.
That’s +115 MPH with 33” mud tires, solid front axle with manual steering and drum brakes all around.
If I told you guys what I’ve done on my bike you’d think I’m even crazier than you probably think I am now.

Beautiful car, BTW. I’ve always wanted to play with an “auto-stick” transmission. It just sounds like fun.
So, next time your brother is passing around the keys, keep me in mind. ;)

Wow.... I bet those mud tires were humming pretty good.

The stupidest thing I can recall is doing 156mph on a Katana 850. Open stretch of road, no traffic, but still one of the dumbest things ever. I was pretty careless growing up...

Tunnel vision comes into play at that speed, and your peripheral visions melts away. It was exhilarating.... but I never should have done it. Wish I would have gotten into skydiving....

By that time all I could hear was the top flapping in the hurricane speed wind.

Good point on tunnel vision.
For those that havenít experienced it, itís where you see a clear pattern in front of you and things on the peripheral of your vision are a blur as they fly past. The faster you go, the smaller the clear pattern becomes.

I was 16 working at a car dealership and took a Lambrogini about a 1/2 mile up the street to get a new muffler put on it. I went to 2nd gear and stomped it. The power and speed of the take off scared the crap out of me. Went the speed limit the rest of the way.

Now that I'm a middle aged suburbanite with no life I'd like to try it again.

The fastest I have been was in my 300ZX way back when and got it up to 142. At that speed it feels like you are in a tunnel and barely any turn of the wheel goes a long way.

I had an SLK350 not too long ago, my mechanic friend was putting breaks on it and he test drove it to 164.
