New Edit - New job, moving back to KC

Edit - see newer post, I found a job.

Today I joined Rust Shack in the land of the unemployed. My (previous) company has been hit hard by the economy since marketing budgets are usually one of the first things hit in slow economic times. On top of that we did a lot of work in the construction and trucking industries which have been hit especially hard. What do you do?

If anyone knows of an ad agency or marketing department looking for media planners, let me know.

kc rush

Edit: I'd prefer to stay in KC, but will move if needed. I have heard that our sister agency in Atlanta has an interest, but I'd like to explore my options here first.

Sucks as I was a victim in end of March. Didn't take really long to land on my feet although I did take a $15K pay cut (not including the fact that I was working from home and now I have to pay gas, daycare and spend lunch money). It helps that we live WAY below our means. My advice to you is to look at this as an opportunity because IT IS!

This is the second time I've been laid off (1st time the company folded) but I've had this feeling since my layoff that something great was going to happen any day now. Then last Thursday, we were blessed with This news. (http://www.rapiddebtloss.com/blog/2008/07/09/the-40000-gift/) (Feel free to click a couple of sponsor links while you're reading)

We were ok before that news but it kinda got me into thinking that there really is something in "The Secret". To stop myself from ranting lets just say this isn't the first time I've been thinking I was getting a check from somewhere and it's actually came into fruition.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITY.

seems like a cut throat business. Wasn't Onthewarpath58 making this same post/request just a month or two ago?

Doesn't Midnight Vulture claim to work for a marketing agency in Atlanta? I doubt he could help you but it might be something to try.

Sorry to hear about the lay off. I can't imagine how bad that would suck if I ever got laid off, and I don't even own any real property. I can imagine how stressful it would be if you had kids and a house. Maybe you'll get lucky. I had a friend that got fired as a Fareway manager for sexual harassment and then found a job making double what he did there. And I swear he can't read. Keep your eyes open

Do you have experience with online advertising?

Sorry to hear the news. Tough market out there. I know someone who is quiting at Interstate bakeries in marketing but they are quiting because the company sucks. But is having a job at a company that sucks beat not having a job for a few weeks?

Don't sweat it too much. I'm sure something will open up.:thumb:

Yes some. I did a lot of work for B to B clients where there wasn't much need for interactive advertising, but I was getting more involved with it. Setting up Google and Yahoo campaigns, working with some vertical web sites plus some conversations with display networks (nothing came of it).

IBC is slowly, painfully dying.

Sorry to hear about your lay off rush.
I've had to struggle through a couple of them over the last 5 years.

After nearly three months of looking, I have found/accepted a job with an ad agency in Lincoln, NE. While I wanted to stay here in KC, there just haven't been many opportunities to even interview.

So, I'm searching for a cheap apartment to get me by while we try to rent out our house here. If anyone has suggestions of apartments (and eventually houses) to rent in Lincoln or knows of anyone looking to rent a house in Olathe, let me know.

Amazing thing is that when the economy gets tough, the liquer and tobacco sales go through the roof. Hey, there is an idea. Open a beer, cigarette, and porn joint.
