The issue is, I was watching ESPN and Clayton tabbed Dorsey as the most likely guy to have a prolonged hold out...

Did he say why? Are we lowballing him or something?

Did he say why? Are we lowballing him or something?

He said he thought the top 4 would all be signed but Dorsey at 5 would be a problem, something to the extent that Dorsey knows he's look at as the cornerstone of the teams future.

You could say that about any top 5 pick?? WHy do the Chiefs have to be different?

Probably because the Chiefs are looked at in a pretty bad light when it comes to these things.

I think the problem is McFadden got more than you'd have expected so now Dorsey can ask for more...and well we know how the Chiefs are about that.

Yeah, but we are rebuilding through the draft, he is huge to our plans, and we know exactly how much the guy before him got. This really shouldn't be that hard.
Dorsey seems like a guy who is really appreciative of his opportunity to play. I can't see him holding out for a long time unless it is because we simply aren't offering him a fair deal in light of the McFadden contract.

Peterson gave an interview to 810 early this year, Jan. or so, and said that if he had the #1 pick he'd go with Dorsey. I'd be willing to bet that Dorsey's agent has this quotation on a loop on his voice mail everytime Carl tries to call.

Oh yeah, **** yeah about Morgan!

This could help explain the hold up
philly daily news 7/18

Meanwhile, a team source confirmed that the dispute between the NFL and the NFLPA over how bonus money can be structured in 4-year rookie contracts is keeping the Birds from inking second-round picks DeSean Jackson and Trevor Laws, with rookies scheduled to report to Lehigh on Monday. The dispute has to do with ownership's decision to scrap the current collective-bargaining agreement, meaning there is no salary cap in 2011 right now. The dispute is to be heard by a Special Master today. The Eagles, and everybody else, hope for a decision over the weekend, but it isn't clear whether that will occur.

He signed a three year contract.

With both #3, QB Ryan in Atlanta, and #4, RB McFadden in Oakland, getting way out of slot contracts, it really does screw up CP's world. He's always been very close to the vest for the slotting order based on x% increase from last year, not necessarily btween the 2-4 picks around them THIS year. Add to it he's got the stigma that some picks do, that they deserved to go higher, so I will be surprised if Dorsey gets done on time.

Albert shouldn't be as bad. In fact, CP also has the tendency to sign all the lower drafted players first, which sqeezes the total rookie $ (a set amount for each team), so the last player to sign really doesn't have any wiggle room on the year 1 cap number. Given the expected issues with Dorsey, it would help CP's leverage with Dorsey to sign Albert 1st.

Frankly, this team isn't going to challenge this year anyway, so in my mind, getting our LT signed earlier to protect the young QB is much more important than our stud DT. We can wait on him, honestly.

I was listening to 610 about a half an hour ago, and they were saying the Chiefs were down to 3 players left to sign. Dorsey, Albert, and Flowers. Siad Charles and Cottam supposedly have also signed, but just has not been officially released yet. And that means the other 7th round TE must have signed as well, but did not hear his name mentioned in the little bit I heard.

I saw Clayton on NFL live over lunch and wasn't watching that close. I did notice one particularly discouraging comment by Clayton when he added that KC had just started talking with Dorsey.

CHIEFS MORGAN CAN'T GET OFF THE FIELD

August 12, 2008 5:24 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- DaJuan Morgan noticed that he had been on the field often during the Chiefs' training camp.

And then he saw the figures. Heading into this week's practices, Morgan, Kansas City's third third-round pick, was on the field 150 snaps more than anybody else on the Kansas City defense during camp. Morgan, a North Carolina State product, has been playing with the first-, second- and third-team defenses.

"That is a lot of plays," Morgan said Tuesday. "But I'm not complaining. I love the work."

And the Chiefs love what they see. They believe they had an outstanding draft and they expect eight or none rookies to play major roles. Morgan might play as big a role as any, at safety.

The Chiefs have long had their eye on Morgan. Last year while studying pre-draft tape of 2007 third-round draft pick Tank Tyler, coach Herman Edwards kept noticing the young safety.

"We've liked this kid a long time," Kansas City defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham said. "We've been really watching him."

And Morgan has been watching the Chiefs. Last summer, while preparing for his final college season, Morgan was captivated by HBO's Hard Knocks, which chronicled the 2007 Chiefs camp.

"I knew then I wanted to be a Chief and play for coach Herm," Morgan said. "Coach Herm's style is perfect for players. I'm glad I'm here."

Even after all of the extra practice reps.
