My oldest daughters boyfriend was injured today by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. The details are minimal but we know he is alive. He was able to IM her briefly but she wasn't home. He asked for me and told me he is alive but alot of test need to be ran and wasn't in as much pain now as before. He couldn't disclose anymore details, but would when time allowed him to .

That's all I know for now, plus our youngest daughters husband is in Afghanistan as well, he is stationed along the Afghanistan / Pakistan border.

Any prayers would be deeply appreciated ........... Thanks and God's speed to Maurice and all those involved in the bombing.

Update : http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080721/ap_on_re_as/afghanistan_soldier_death_1

One soldier lost his life, he was from Ft Campbell Ky, the same 101st Airborne as my SIL.
http://www.kentucky.com/471/story/468041.html

No more news on Maurice yet.

Update 07/23/08 : No news at all, he hasn't gotten on line any, nothing from the Army. We knew he need a lot of testing on the severity of his injuries and he was heavily sedated, we think they were going to transfer him ASAP to another military hospital for the testing. Getting No news at all is almost as bad as bad news.

**********************************************
07/24/08 Good News Update ! But still some concerns !

He was able to send some IM today, They have not decided yet to keep him there or send him to Germany, will know sometime tomorrow. Was able to find out he has all of his limbs, but he says he can't disclose any other details, still in alot of pain. My best guess is he is probably burnt pretty bad because he said the healing time will be very long . Since we are not related to him and he doesn't want his mother to know of anything about his injuries, it's hard to get info. They have very strict regulations about disclosing any info on the internet.

*************************************************

July 26th Update : Nothing , no news, no contact. The army's communications are horrible. You can't ask them nothing, they tell you nothing other than when the soldier can communicate, he will. 4321 THAT !

*************************************************
UPDATE : Good News and sad.

Got an IM today, he is feeling much better, chatted a long time. Said the healing was going rather quickly, so this probably means he didn't get burned too bad . He expects to be back with his unit and back on missions. His unit's tour of duty is up in November, he is looking forward to returning home. He has enough time to retire soon, this might of just helped him make up his mind quicker.

He said , THANKS FOR THE THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

Not to take away from the point of your thread, but did you meant to put this in D.C.? To me, this isn't a political issue, so I'd be glad to put it in the Lounge if you'd like.

Our young men and women are fighting hidden dangers with those roadside bombs. What cowards those insurgents are to cower in the shadows making these things. I hope your daughter's boyfriend is not injured badly and you son-in-law in Afghanistan comes home safely.

Thinking about your family and all the others who made their sacrifices.

That's about as good as the news could have been, Roy. Though some broken bones and torn ligaments could also mean long recovery times as well. But I think burns is probably a good guess when coupled with the facts he's in a lot of pain and the weaponry employed by the adversary.
