Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the Chargers have signed defensive lineman Luis Castillo to a five-year, $43.1 million contract extension that gives Castillo $18 million in guarantees. The contract locks Castillo up through the 2014 season.

-This is what KC should be doing with Johnson, but we all know the King lives for last minute signings.

Derrick Johnson? He hasn't done enough to warrant a long term commitment.

There is nothing wrong with his play.. we could extend him on the cheap and have a solid linebacker for years...

he isn't the "playmaker" that he was thought to have been, but its not like he's a handicap on the defense

solid, everyday, workman linebacker

Extending his contract now would be too much like right.

I like Derrick Johnson. He's a good Linebacker.
He stepped it up last season and I believe he'll take another step this year and become a Pro Bowler.

I wouldn't mind seeing an upgrade over DJ but it wouldn't be bad to keep him around as a 4th or 5th line backer

The things people say.

Derrick Johnson is not a 4th or 5th Linebacker.
That's ridiculous.

Technically, extensions only can be made to current and active contracts since it doesn't make any sense to extend an expired contract.

A 4th or 5th LBer-that's aughable. He may not be an all-pro, but he's defintely a starter.

We should absolutely get DJ signed long-term, but the cheaps organization like their money too much.

Now that Allen is gone Johnson is the best defensive player on the team. If you are talking upgrades there are arguably 10 other starters you'd upgrade first (9 once Dorsey is signed).
