Did you know that there are over 1000 unique species of bats, Mr. Deberg_1990?

There are more species of bats than we ran offensive plays last year.

The Giant Golden Crowned Flying Fox is the largest known bat. Some have a wing span of over 5 feet. They have pretty big feet, too.

In Britain, bats are protected by law. Over there, even if you have a darn good excuse, you can go to jail for whacking a bat.

Do the BatScientists work for Batman?

My favorite bat is Col. Bat Guano from Dr. Strangelove.

My 2nd favorite bat is Louisville Slugger.

My 3rd favorite bat is Labatts' Beer.

The bat is the mosquito's worst enemy, Mr. rambleonthruthefog. One little bitty bat can consume up to 1000 mosquitoes in an hour. That's about 24,000 mosquitoes per day except they don't hunt mosquitoes during the daytime because they're sleeping upside down ... the bats, I mean. Otherwise, they would.

As mentioned, bats do not grow facial hair. They do, however, have something called a "tragus". This is a little lobe thing that is located right in front of the little bat's ear. BatScientists have no idea what the "tragus" is for, unfortunately. Nor do they know why they call it a "tragus". BatScientists don't generate a lot of confidence.

Some bats catch fish. BatScientists are confused about this since bats don't like fish.

Bats live to the age of 20 or so unless they are shot or eat some bad fish. BatScientists are aware of one bat who lived to the age of 30. With this knowledge, BatScientists were able to calculate something called the "BatYear" which is approximately 3.5 human years. Then the BatScientists had some lunch at a taco place.

BatScientists don't like to study Vampire Bats because they're kind of scary. But, they have to or else they'll lose their license. That's how BatScientists discovered that Vampire Bats consume the blood of cattle, horses, and wild mammals like deer and demure brunettes with vacant, vacuous stares and who dress in long, flowing, white gowns which reveal a significant amount of bosom. BatScientists like studying them but they do go through a lot of kleenex.

The Federal Government has determined that, if bats were the size of elephants, there would be very few BatScientists. So, most BatScientists agree that it's a good thing bats are fairly small compared to elephants.

BatFacts are one of my specialties, Mr. Deberg_1990.

Mom always said, "Keep your BatFacts straight, my son, and you'll never do your own laundry."
