Considering Herm's love of the 3 point play, Barth vs Novak could be the most important battle in training camp.
Kickers get off to inauspicious start
Chiefs kickers Nick Novak and Connor Barth each made a sour first impression during Saturday afternoon's field goal drills, missing each of their first attempts.
Both tries were from 38 yards. Novak's kick bounced off the right upright, and Barth's attempt was wide left.
They did, however, each make their next three field goal tries, converting kicks from as long as 42 yards.
The Chiefs are hoping they can avoid last year's kicking debacle, when they drafted Justin Medlock in the fifth round last year and traded Lawrence Tynes, who went on to kick the first and last points in the New York Giants' Super Bowl win. Medlock, of course, was waived after Week 1, thus starting a piecemeal kicking game that ended with the Chiefs making 70 percent of their field goals, 30th in the 32-team NFL.
