I only post the link because of the length. My first thoughts are that its silly to know where the oil is and not go after it. But then I think maybe the smarter strategy would be to keep it right where it is until the proverbial sheet really hits the fan.

Either way we need to really come up with a better plan than what we have to find alternatives.

The sheet has already hit the fan. Look, the USA built the Alaska oil pipeline in 1976 as a response to OPEC using oil as leverage against us politically and economically.

Today we see a similar strategy ie; Iran threatening to blockade the Strait of Hormuz.

The infrastructure is already in place as ANWR is only 76 miles from the current pipeline.

I agree with T. Boone Pickens (is that a great Texan name, or what?) that we need to create alternatives to oil, natural gas, and coal to produce electricity and home heating. But in the short term, we must drill. Hybrid cars are neat, but large trucks will still need diesel fuel, and everything that you eat today, wear today, the furniture you sit on, the tv you stare at inevitably came off an 18 wheeler.

By the way, the article was a good read on supply and demand and the growing economies of India and China.

Something else in current events--- Brazil has discovered an oil field off it's Atlantic coast said to be larger than Anything Saudi Arabia has in reserve.

We must get off middle east oil, or at least create a supply that compromises the Arabs ability to manipulate us at will.
