Do all the New Metallica songs suck, or is it just 'cool' to say that they suck?
I'm thinking it's the latter. To be honest, I love Metallica music, but I'm not an obessive fan. First and foremost I'm a fan of good rock and roll music, so I don't care at all if this Metallica album is like the old Metallica albums. To me if it sounds good it is good! I didn't like St. Anger (terrible production, but not so bad live- might do well if they remade it, LOL), but I don't see what's wrong with loving songs like Enter Sandman, Where Ever I May Roam, Sad But True, Fuel, King Nothing. These are post-MOP songs that rock! I think the problem is that they're by "holy" Metallica, and the "true 'tallica fans," just hate the band deviating from their roots (which, yes...they obviously have). Be that as it may, they're still great classic rock songs, IMO.

The new song rocks, but I don't feel like this one will regarded among their best songs. Good, but not great. Still...better than St. Anger, and bodes well for the rest of the album.

LOL! ROFL

I was referring to their new "leaked" song: "Death is Not the End."

Like I said, it rocks, but it's not going to be one of their best.

I've recently read that Death is not the End aka (The New Song) and Vulturous (The Other New Song), which have both leaked from live performances and their web site will NOT be on the new album.

What will be featured? The Unforgiven 3, ugh... I'm not a fan of song sequels. Unforgiven 2 was almost tolerable, but I almost puked when GodSmack did VooDoo 2, yuck!

Here's the rest:

"That Was Just Your Life"
"The End of the Line"
"Broken, Beat & Scarred"
"The Day That Never Comes"
"All Nightmare Long" (Kind of a cool title)
"Cyanide"
"The Unforgiven III"
"The Judas Kiss"
"Suicide & Redemption"
"My Apocalypse"

I was a huge Metallica fan from Kill em all to And Justice for All. I was crushed when the black album came out but it is a masterpiece compared the total shit that followed.

I have to admit after hearing "The day that never comes" and clips from other songs on thier website I'm starting to gain some excitement for this album. It's kind of like a modern day fade to black. I love the last solo in the song. They have two songs on the my space page. I like them the more I hear them. I'm glad they are putting out something that at least some what resembles the band they were.

I would post the link but I guess I haven't earned my wings yet :D

Those two new songs are both pretty cool, IMO. I prefer Cyanide over The Day That Never Comes, but I like the heavier stuff. Cyanide is a cool song. The music is old school, but the vocals are more Load-ish. The Day That Never Comes has a little Fade to Black in it, but I'm also hearing some "Nothing Else Matters" as well. It's good. Not Classic, but good. I think I'll buy it.

Personally, I think the songwriting is just a continuation of St. Anger but they went back to guitar solos and "high quality" production (i.e., no crazy ass drum samples or Bob Rock on bass). Plus, they Melodyne'd or Autotuned Hetfield's vocal tracks.

I dug St. Anger. I think the tracks are fabricated but they sound raw and aggressive. I think it was a HUGE risk for a band like to Metallica to expose themselves in the "Some Kind of Monster" video and to make a record like St. Anger. I think it shows their balls are as big as church bells.

I think the new record will "sound" great. I just hope the songs are worth listening to over and over again.

An 8-minute song doesn't ensure greatness.

It may just ensure monotony.

XM Radio has a special "Mandatory Metallica" channel for the next 6 weeks or so playing nothing but Metallica all the time. They are playing their entire catalog, including all their covers and some live tunes. It's cool hearing all their stuff on one station. Some of the newer stuff isn't as good, but tuning in and hearing songs like "Trapped Under Ice" and "Phantom Lord" made it all worthwhile.

That's not too bad. I still absolutely hate Hetfield's Load/Reload style vocals. The production on that sounds like crap, though. I assume that's a live recording and that's why it sounds distorted. Correct? Still, I think once the studio recording comes out, I may have to check it out. That song really was good right about 5 and half minutes until the end.

It's funny because this would be a perfect time to strike with some melodic materpieces, AJFA style. The market would absolutely eat it up.

Not Horrible, better than the crap they've been putting out.

I have been boycotting Metallica for quite some time now, havent seen them live since the AJFA tour but Im thinking I may go check 'em out this time. I was HUGE Metallica fan my buddy and I discovered "Ride the Lightning" in High School (this was before Master of Puppets was released). Saw Cliff Burton and the boys open up for WASP at the Uptown Theater oh so many years ago.

Not terrible, but sounds as if they are trying too hard to replicate the thrash sound of their very early stuff. The other track gave me a little more hope for this album.

I downloaded and listened to the entire album today. I have to say I'm suprised to say I really like it. Most of the songs are better than the ones initially released on the site and I like the other songs better when heard with the rest of the album. I was huge Metallica fan in the early days but didn't really like the Black Album and have hated everything since. I'm not sure where I would put it overall but I can tell you I'm 100x more happy with it than my first listen to the Black Album. Of course my expectations where high then and low now. I think it's at least there best album since And Justice for all but time will tell. I'm just happy to see them put out a decent product again.

Anyone else heard it yet?

Yeah, I just heard it too. It's good. I've post my thoughts on the other Metallica thread, but you're right there are better songs than the ones we've already heard. All Nightmare Long, Judas Kiss and Broken, Beaten and Scarred are the ones I'm liking a lot after repeated listens. Actally, All Nightmare Long is really growing on me. I love that thrash rhythm and the vocals are growing on me. Sweet Bass intro too.

Most people are in agreement with you on nightmare and judas kiss. I think the first song is the best song they have put out in years. The riff is just out of ****ing control. I love it. I think it's called that was your life? I don't have the titles. Cyanide, Nightmare and Judas Kiss definately have the best hooks but I really enjoy the first three songs on the album.

I was really worried about the singing but it's pretty good. The way the album flows is great. You can tell they tried to do the same kind of song outline as Justice and Master with how they put it together. I'm really even liking the original songs more that I hear them with the flow of the entire album. I still dont know where it will rank as it is too new but is a really good album and definately worth a purchase for metal fans imo.
