Well, I never thought it could happen but it has... our business has been robbed. I have reason to believe it is an inside job. I have worked with most of these people for 2 years and find most of them honest and trustworthy.

About a month ago I made a purchase with Dell for 12 laptops. They were received and configured with our network software and settings ready to go out to people in the field. They had been placed in my Boss's office as she was the one who signed the delivery and she had more room in her office than mine to store them. I had grabbed one last week to take out to an individual and that was my last of seeing them. Yesterday I walked in to mark out a couple to deliver this week and noticed a stack missing. I did a quick inventory and noticed 4 of them gone. Now my first reaction was anger. Who could be dishonest and steal from a Non-Profit organization.

We called the sheriff's dept this morning and reported the missing systems. Luckily I have keep good inventory and had the Service Tag numbers of the missing systems to give to the law enforcement officer. I've contacted Dell to with the Service Tag numbers and all they can do is refuse service if someone calls in on those numbers.

You've probably been asking why I think this is an inside job. We have an alarm and it was never tripped. There are 40 other systems sitting in peoples offices. No locks or windows were broken anywhere.

I'm still PISSED!!! :cuss::cuss::cuss:

No, it's just the Operating system, antivirus and Office 2003 added. They are setup to logon to a domain so they'll have problems there and the Admin account on the local settings is password protected.

The biggest problem is that they are Dell's. ;)

You might want to e-mail, or better yet perhaps have a meeting with the employees. (I think e-mails are generally ineffective.)

Where you tell of the misfortunate incident. How much $ this effects the company, etc. and, without and sounding like you are accusing them, say that if anyone knows anything about this or could some how help in the return of these computers.

This will be kept completely confidential.

Ha Ha, I was thinking of Amnorix's lie-detector thread. See if we can get someone to confess!

You wouldn't happen to have an extra 1 or 3 you're looking to get rid of?

if you have alarms someone would have had to trip the alarm or disable it
those would require user codes

my point is check the alarm codes, each one should be assigned to an individual user

It's an old system with one code for all. If we had the money I'd vote for upgrading everything. Much to my chagrin it's like pulling teeth to get them to spend money on something other than HeadStart things.

make a saved search on ebay for dell laptops sorted by closest to your zip code and check that periodically

unfortunately that is probably a good reason for someone to steal. If the company pays shit and gives shit raises, many employees probably think it is OK to make their own raise.

chasedude stole them because he was mad about the 1% raise and started this thread in an effort to provide a motive against why he did it later if he gets caught (i.e., "if it was me, why would I have started a thread on a message board venting about it?"
