I got $3K in casino money to bet you that the Cardinals make the playoffs next year. Wanna bet?

I don't really give a shit about casino cash but sure...the Cardinals had a fluke of a year...I bet they don't even win 85 games.

The Cubs have choked. But don't take anything away from the Dodgers. Just like in '88 the team followed Gibsons tough, gritty attitude, this year they are loose taking Mannys lead.

Furcal was playing great before his injury and he is back. This team has what it takes to get hot and beat Boston in the WS under Torre's guidance.

What a scenario to give a big FU to the Yanks and Sox!

Dodgers are on fire! I hope Philly closes it out tomorrow so we don't lose the momentum and have to wait to start the Champ Series.

This is the 50 year anniversary since moving to LA (Giants moved to SF the same year and still have never won a WS) and 20 year since beating Oakland for our last of many WS Champs.

I've been a Dodgers fan since before I moved to Los Angeles nearly 16 years ago.

I have a season package of 8 games per year with seats 6 rows off of first base (Section 22). And I probably went to about 12 games this year.

One of my best friends has a frat brother that works in the Dodgers front office. So I'm fortunate to have access to incredible seats for special events like the playoff and Barry Bonds' chase last year (we went two nights in a row last year while Bonds chased 715. Right behind home plate. I think I've detailed those nights).

I took my Dad to a Dodgers game this year and he loved the stadium and couldn't believe the seats. And he's someone that went to the old A's games in KC in the 60's and was at one point, a Royals season ticket holder.

I lived in the Bay area for 4 months during 1993. Worked in Berkeley and lived in Pleasant Hill.

My wife's from Stockton. I was a fan of Bonds (I guess I'm the only one) but not necessarily the Giants. I wanted them to win the Series a few years back for Bonds, but I've been a Dodgers fan since 1977.

Maybe I confused your aggressive defense for Bonds as being a Giants fan.

How can a 30+ year Dodger fan be a fan of Bonds? That is impossible. That is like being a Chiefs fan and a fan of Elway.

I respect Elways, and Bonds talent. I would never be a fan of them.

If you moved to CA in 93 how did you become a Dodger fan in 77?

I was born in OC and we moved to KC when I was young. We went to all the Chiefs games so I became a Chief fan but I was a LA fan for all other sports. Go Dodgers and Lakers!

Can't forget the great Trojan victory tonight. Fortunately my cuz didn't see any punting action until Q4. He held a lot of FG's and PAT's earlier though.

My dad and I worked on a home project in 1977 while the World Series was on the radio. I was 11 at the time but that project and that series never left me. I became a Dodgers fan that year and always followed them while living in KC.

As for Bonds, I believe that some players transcend fan loyalty. That and the fact that I didn't live in Los Angeles, so that deep seated rivalry never set in for me. Plus, the Dodgers were so bad for so long, it was nice to see a team from California do well.

Sanchez looked great tonight. I hope he continues to improve each week. I can't reveal my like of USC to my wife because she's a UCLA grad.

Tough year for you.

And the Cubs don't have any weaknesses...they are going to win 100 games this year. They are EASILY the frontrunners to win the World Series. The pre-game show on Fox today was all about the Cubs HAVING no weaknesses...

But hey, at least you guys have a "rich" farm system...sure, it's not in the top 10 but you're "rebuilding" through your "rich" farm system!

Haha! KICK THEM WHILE THEY'RE DOWN!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but IMHO, a team with "no weaknesses" probably shouldn't get swept out of the playoffs.

Oh, and do keep me posted on that whole World Series frontrunner thing, won't you?

I am glad you are a fan of the Dodgers and go to games.

Bonds does not transcend loyalty. He polarizes it. His teamates hated him, the fans cheered for him but those who have met him do not like him. He cheated to get the records he did get. And, he did not win a Championship.

If Michael Jordan would have the same track record as Bonds then he could get away with it because he won championships. Bonds didn't.

I don't want to turn this into a Bonds argument...but. Just because the Dodgers haven't been winning and the Giants were doesn't mean it is OK to root for your rival.

If you are going to continue to root for the Dodgers for the rest of the playoffs you must make a public denouncement of Bonds and the Giants.

There was a book written about what a jerk Bonds was. Not just to fans but to teamates too.

As you said though it does go to loving a team and not a player.

How can anybody who claims to be a Dodger fan root for BB? Not only is he a documented jerk...he plays for the rival.

I don't care that we had not won a playoff series since we beat the A's and won only 1 playoff game. You still don't root for the enemy.

The Chiefs are currently in the same drought the Dodgers were in when Dane found it convenient to root for the enemy.

He did play well in the WS vs. Anaheim while on the juice. Look at his non-juice playoff numbers. They are pathetic.

I was just pointing out that it seems like you have to be a jerk in order to be the Home Run King. That is what the last two men to hold the title have shown. I use the term men loosely. Men would not act like that. Ruth was not perfect, but he was a great guy all around. No pun intended. He may still be protected by the media, but I have to doubt it after all of this time.

Interesting Cubs facts. In 1945, the last time that the Cubs were in the World Series there were 16 teams in baseball. Since 1945 the other 15 franchises have all been to multiple world series. Every other team has won the World Series once and 12 have won multiple times. 10 of 14 expansion teams have been in the World Series with 3 having won multiple World Series. In 1945 when the season started Franklin Roosevelt was President.

In 1908, the last time the Cubs Won the World Series Iowa had more people than California and St. Louis was the 4th largest city in the country. Teddy Roosevelt was President.

In their prime, he's the guy i want. I went to even watch Marino play against the Raiders in Oakland. Not a fan of either team, but i wanted to see the greats.

We knew this was going to be a down year for us but we still held the team to a high standard. Next year will be an even higher standard. If we don't make the playoffs next year I think a lot of Cardinl fans will consider it a failure of a season.

I figured the Cubs had about a 30% chance of winning the World Series. They choked, played awful...at least it wasn't 2003 when they were 5 outs away from the World Series.

The Cubs need a power hitter...they need a ManRam. If they want to throw money at anyone this offseason, I'd be handing Manny a blank check and sacrificing defense for hitting and trying the Soriano in center experiment out again.

If you go to eBay.com this morning, you will see item No. 120313290200, and it is the ultimate symbol of the state of being a Cubs fan:

"Cubs Loyalty FOR SALE!!! Highest bidder"

This is no joke. As of 7 p.m. Tuesday night, there were 24 bids, and the price for a broken spirit was up to a staggering $455.00.

Seriously.

Someone was selling his loyalty to this snake-bitten, Billy goat-cursed, Bartman-hexed, frustration-filled franchise, and for some unknown reason, he found a sucker ... er, buyer.

Unless it comes with something useful like, I dunno, Novocain or a roll of Tums, I fail to see the attraction.

So now the inevitable has finally happened, though for some unknown reason on a 100-year-old time delay. The Cubbies are no longer loveable. Now they are hated. Despised. All of Cubdom has offered a full-scale, unilateral surrender.

The last of the "wait 'til next year" promises and "It's Gonna Happen" hopeful pleas just reached their expiration dates.

See thats the difference between Cubs and Cardinal fans. Your not disapointed? Your lying to yourself or unself aware or stupid. and I don't think your stupid.

As a Cubs,Royals,Chiefs fan I think it is what it is,the teams have lost for so long you have no disappointment left but rather an expectance that something or someone is going to derail the train once again.

Maybe for a month but you know as well as I that the fan base will always be there for the Cubs...whether they win 50 games, 75 games, 100 games or 120 games.

The Cubs suck and the Cards are easier to deal with, but where is 2006, 2007, and 2008? Would 2004 to 2008 be the last five years?

The original quote was about the Cardinals not being good enough to be a World Series champ in 2006. I stated they were the best team in baseball the previous five years. Wanna try again?
