I used to catch SG-1 reruns in random order until it jumped the shark when the McGyver guy's role deminished and then ended. I understand the show went on another 2 or 3 seasons. I also started watching Stargate Atlantis and gave up on it mainly because of the weak cast (IMO). Actually the leading women IMO was the weakest by far. Recently I caught bits and pieces of a newer episode and it seems the woman had been replaced by Major Carter from SG-1. Is that the case or was it for just that episode? Has Atlantis gotten better or worse? If better, then can someone post a cliff note version of the late (post shark) SG-1 and the transition of characters to Atlantis? I could be persuaded to give Atlantis another try.

Carter was the leader of Atlantis for season 4. I don't know that there was much of an improvement as her role was fairly weak. She has now been replaced by Woolsey. Not sure what to think of that yet...

Atlantis has it's moments, but in general I find I don't like it as much as SG-1.

If you are into SG-1, they have released two DVD "movies" (more like extended episodes with a slightly larger budget) since the series went off the air....

"Ark of Truth" - which finishes up the Ori drama (don't watch this until you've seen the last two seasons of SG-1)

and "Stargate Continuum" - I haven't seen this yet

Give SGA another try. It's pretty good.
Like asdf said, don't watch Ark of Truth until you see the last two seasons of SG1. Both of the movies are pretty good and worth the time too watch. IMO
