Sony Sued by Hall-of-Famer Jim Brown Over Video-Game Figure
By Patricia Hurtado
July 31 (Bloomberg) -- Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. and Electronic Arts Inc. (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=ERTS%3AUS) were sued by Hall-of-Fame running back Jim Brown (http://search.bloomberg.com/search?q=Jim+Brown&site=wnews&client=wnews&proxystylesheet=wnews&output=xml_no_dtd&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&filter=p&getfields=wnnis&sort=date:D:S:d1), who accused the companies of using an electronic football-game character based on him without his permission.
Brown, who left the National Football League to become an actor and starred in the movies ``The Dirty Dozen'' and ``Any Given Sunday,'' seeks a court order stopping the Sony Corp. (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=6758%3AJP) unit and Electronic Arts (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=ERTS%3AUS) from using his likeness.
The character, part of the ``Real Old School Teams and Players'' series, is a muscular, African-American running back wearing the number 32 jersey who is featured in the game's ``All Brown's Team,'' Brown said in a complaint filed yesterday in state court in New York.
Brown, who played for the Cleveland Browns, said in the complaint that he ``never signed away any rights that would allow his likeness to be used.''
The case is James Brown v. Sony USA Inc., 110412/2008, New York State Supreme Court (Manhattan).

He's just misunderstood. :D

In all seriousness, when I met him he was nice and signed a hat for me.

Did he accidentally misspell your name as "D-e-a-t-h-t-o-w-h-i-t-e-y"?

Sony should challenge him to a cagematch for the rights to his likeness.

Well this is a simple fix for Sony, just make him white in the game. Not only would that piss him off to no end, he'd lose any claim to that being his likeness(well unless he pulled a micheal jackson).
