John McCain 42% (36%)
Barack Obama 41% (46%)

Survey of 1,011 likely voters was conducted July 31 - August 1. The margin of error is +/- 3.1 percentage points. Results from the poll conducted July 9-13 are in parentheses.

You may be right, with how unpopular and inept the Republican party is it should be a cake walk.
