2008 guide to laptop (http://www.topnewsblog.info/tblog_10568.htm)

Does anyone else think that the EEE PC is overrated? Sure it may be small but the performance just isn't there, so much more could have been done.

You can find Macbooks being dumped on Craig's list all the time for less than $1000. Good specs too.

used and with no warranty on a laptop, yeah, even if it is a MAC I would assume a short life.

Are macbook air's the best small laptops? I know Sony has one, there's a few others in the market, which ones are any good? And is the added portability worth the cost?

Yes, you do take a chance with any used piece of computer equipment. Laptops are especially prone to wear and tear, but hey, buy used, take a chance.

Mac Air laptops require an external CD/DVD drive. They're cool because they are so thin, but not particularly user friendly.

The intel duo core Mac Book Pro's kick ass. I've had one for three years and it's the bomb.

I did buy an extended warranty because I use it at work every day.

I'd love a Macbook air, but don't know if I'd rather have it than than 3 Acers or something similar.

I also have a Mac Book Pro. Best computer I own :-)

I bought my wife a MacBook last month; also a great laptop but I just recently found that the "combo" burner drive Apple puts in the MacBook only writes to RD - it READS DVDs :-/ Lame. For the amount they charge the damned drive should be capable of burning to DVD.

If you have multiple Macs, enable desktop sharing. That is so damned kewl :D

HP laptops SUCK.

I will never, EVER buy one of those shitty systems again. I had to send it back more times than I did my effing Xbox 360.

I love my eee.

Works great on the train. Ubuntu installed on the 20 GB SSD, and BT3 on flash, will be installed on an 8GB SDHC. Upped to 2GB memory, and the whole thing was still under $500. It just goes places I can't or won't take a regular laptop. If I want power, I've got my personal 15" MBP or my work laptop.

EDIT:

I have no idea how old that link is, but their prices are complete bullshit. The eee 900 was never $650. The most expensive model was $550. Right now, the eee 900 is $450 so they can clear room for the 901.

I grabbed a similar deal on a Toshiba yesterday, with roughly the same specs, but a only 200GB hard drive. After fighting our ancient desktop for a while now, this thing is a breath of fresh air.
