Throw stones at me, but I'm seriously tired of the Olympics. 13,000 gold medals, awesome, great. The guy must be Christ ... egh ... May the NFL season wash away the publicity of swimming ..........................

It's so anti-trendy to hate on Michael Phelps. I get it... you think by holding the attitude that Phelps isn't anything special that you're cool. Whatever.

Dude is the great Olympian ever, and one of the greatest athletes of all-time.

**** you, Ian Thorpe.

Norris masterbated to Phelps last gold, not out of homosexual urge, but more as a salute from one ass-kicker to another before toweling off with a quilt made from the pelts of 8 different endangered animals.

There is no gay to Norris, only things that please and displease him.

Roundhouse Chuck then alerted the media that he was pleased and out of respect there would be no ass-kicking for 24 hours.

On monday he leaves for France where he'll single handedly take over the country and then work out an "agreement" with Putin over Georgia...

Hell yes. Anyone who can't appreciate what Phelps accomplished in these Olympics isn't trying.
Here is a little perspective:

Gold Medal Count 2008 Summer Olympics

China 35
United States 19
Great Britain 11
Germany 9
Michael Phelps 8
Russia 7
Italy 6
France 4

How many other Olympic sports give an athlete that many chances to medal?

Swimming is not on an even playing field with other Olympic sports.

Swimming is not on an even playing field with other Olympic sports. And you'd think with all of those different events, there would be a competitor for each event that would step up and seriously challenge or beat Phelps.

But they couldn't. Phelps had 8 chances to lose Gold, which is a whole lot easier considering he could have finished anywhere from 2-8, but he didn't.

Get back to me when Usain breaks 7 WRs in 1 Olympics.

Well Usain would do that if the Olympics would introduce the 40 meter dash, along with the 60 and 150.

There is more opportunity to gold in swimming than any other Olympic sport. They are not on an even playing field.

To me that makes his accomplishments all the more amazing. There is nothing more physically demanding than competitive swimming. Jump in and try some of those strokes those dudes do.
Phelps had to compete in multiple events and had such incredible endurance he still blew up the record book.

Track and field?

100m
200m
4x100 relay
4x200 relay
400m
4x400
800m
4x800

Don't penalize Phelps because he kicks ass in more than one discipline.

That's horseshit. 800 meters is not even in the same class with the 100, 200 and 400.

Umm, gymnastics and track and field have quite a few opportunities, also.

He is a couple of medals shy of the all-time total medal record held by some Ruski commy gymnastics chick.
Phelps said he wants to concentrate on individual sprint events for London, which means he probably won't compete in the relays and long distance swims.

It's hard to make an argument against him, although that d-bag who got banned does have a few points.

If anyone is in the conversation with him, it's Carl Lewis. He's the only guy to successfully defend the 100 meter title, he pulled off the Jesse Owens feat in the '84 olympics (probably all you can expect as far as # of golds from a T&F athlete in one games), and he's the only guy to successfully defend the long jump title...and he did that 3 times for a total of 4 golds.

He was a dropped baton in Seoul away from 10 gold medals.

and a 4x100 IM isn't in the same class as a 200 m butterfly. i don't see your logic here.
