Another defensive lineup change

Tank Tyler replaced Ron Edwards as a starting defensive tackle in practice today, marking the second lineup change on the line and the third on the defense since the start of training camp.

Edwards has been a solid if unspectacular run defender since he joined the Chiefs two years ago. But the Chiefs believe that Tyler, in his second season, has more potential and has earned the spot. Edwards will play as part of the defensive line rotation.

The Chiefs now line up with Tyler and Glenn Dorsey at tackle and Tamba Hali and Turk McBride at end. Hali, in his third season, is the senior member of the group.

Alfonso Boone, who was displaced as the starting left end early in camp by McBride, comes in at tackle on obvious passing downs, replacing Tyler.

The Chiefs also replaced middle linebacker Napoleon Harris with Pat Thomas.

It doesn't really matter who's starting. We're going to have one hell of a DT rotation this year with Edwards and Boone coming off the bench.

Hali...Dorsey...Tyler...McBride

At least we're going to see what we've got with this line. I'm tired of seeing Edwards starting. Boone is a great backup too.

Wow. All drafted in the last 3 yrs. Feels good. The best way to get better is by playing.

I think Tyler will be a force by his 3rd season.

Stunts out the wazoo. Watch Ryan Clady get his ass kicked by Dorsey this year.

Nice to see tank starting. Dorsey and the Tank up the middle. We got some big guys playing up the middle now.

yeah, they eventually got it right....tank/boone should be a nice rotation...

Turk is technically out of position, but less so than Boone was at DE...and Turk seems to be showing some promise...

To make it right, they need to put Hali back on his natural side, and put McBride where he should be on the rush end.

McBride is even less athletic than Hali. Bad idea.

hopefully, next year we'll get another DE, move Hali back, and move Turk inside to DT....he may pan out as an end, but I remember him saying when he was drafted that DT was his natural position....

If that or Brian Johnston turns out to be awesome......we'd have one hell of a DT rotation. Dorsey, Tank, Turk, Boone and Edwards.

You guys are worrying too much about Turk in this position or that position. From what I've seen of him, he's an ideal 1st/2nd down DE and 3rd down DT. He's not either/or. We need to use him like the Giants use Tuck. We don't have that luxury right now, but in time that's my hope.

It'd be nice if Croyle shows something, a WR2 steps up (Franklin?) and Albert locks down the LT spot. Then we could go out and draft a beastly RDE pass-rusher, put Hali as the LDE, have Dorsey and Tank creating all kinds of havoc inside, and bring the likes of McBride, Boone and hopefully a guy like Brian Johnston off the bench on various downs to give the opposing OL fits.

Some of those guys have Gunther hate so deep in their system, a Super Bowl win is the only cure. Anyway, I don't think the emergence of Tank and Turk necessarily means Gutheriffic is completely responsible. Or, maybe so. Did he pick these guys to draft?

Q: In college you played inside and outside, where do you fit the best with the Chiefs?

McBRIDE: ďTo be honest I donít even know. I donít think I really got the chance to excel at each position the way I know I could. Just off of what I was doing at Tennessee going back and forth so I donít think I excelled. My comfort zone right now Iíd say is defensive tackle, but I think in the long run Iíll be a better defensive end.Ē

Could be. I've been wondering if that switch was permanent myself, since it wasn't reflected on the most recent depth chart, and Edwards started against the Cardinals.

He did? Then who is the Johnson he listed as starter with the linebackers?

Also, Thigpen was not our draft pick, he was the Vikings. They cut him to sneak him on the practice squad and the chiefs grabbed him.

I'd be one of those guys. Gun has a lot to prove and this starting rotation hasn't proven jack yet. But at least it's a step in the right direction. Even if they fail abysmally we find something out instead of sticking our heads in the sand.

And it beats the hell out of Freeman-Downing-Sims-Siavii-Browning-Hicks (even if they all lined up at once).
