FWIW, I saw the Vikes play the Ravens last week and saw a very slow unmotivated Allen with only 2 decent plays that were against the 2nd team O out of about 5 series of plays. He got his $$$$ and hopefully we got the Vikes best picks.:thumb::ROFL

13-16 sacks? PB year
9-12 sacks? good year
5-8 sacks? mediocre
0-5 sacks? takes the $$ and gets hurt

What do guess

13-16 is in the bag. He's joining a very strong defensive unit and will benefit from other players who can bring the heat. Motivation will not be a problem once the whistle blows and its real.

Hmmm. A payday slump year? Maybe.

I expect at least a 10 sack year from the guy.

I dont care if he gets 0 sacks or 25 sacks. Hes not a Chief anymore.

I was all for the trade from the start.
I think JA was a one year wonder and although he my produce decent years he is not the saviour that the Vikes bought. I am going to go with 5-8 sacks and an injury or a drunkin stuper.
We did get the better of the deal.

I'm going to guess that you haven't figured out how to post a poll.

I'm going to guess he gets a 12-pack and works up to a case. Wait...that's wrong.

Although I agree in principle, Mr. Deberg_1990, I differ in the sense that it will be interesting to see who made the best decision here - the Vikes or Carl.

Question is will he show up in the second half?

Were I a Vikings fan and somehow still had the knowledge about Allen and his immaturity that I do as a Chiefs fan, I would be somewhat concerned about the possibility that, because of their DTs, he'll think that he can slack off and still produce.

But I would be quite surprised if he had anything under 12 sacks.

Who is Jared Allen?

I don't know why anybody would think he'll slack off. He's a competitor and goes hard to win despite immaturity.

And he's immature and he's gotten his big contract. It would hardly be the first time that's ever happened in the history of sports.

Nah - people compete for a variety of reasons. Allen competes because he loves the attention not the money. I don't think I've ever heard anybody question his motor before. He's not athletically superior in NFL terms, he's relentless and comes every down - which is why he's found success in the league and was overlooked in the draft - IMO.

I know that his results fell off later in games but I still never doubted his effort. When you figure that a quality DE is going to get 10-14 sacks in a 16 game season, you can't whine too much when they all come in the early stages of games.

I'd go further than that Phil. A guy who gets 14 sacks is usually 1st team PB and a candidate for NFL defensive MVP. Plus a guy will attract a lot of double teams by the 4th period if he's been blowing up the LOS early.

I don't know why anyone would not want Dorsey and JA on the same Chiefs squad. Sure would help that youthful secondary.

Its going to take a few years. Allen is in his prime and more than likely will play at a high level this year.

WHo was he traded for basically?? Albert, Charles and Dejaun Morgan?? Obviously it will take a few years to see what the full impact will be.

Everything ive read before said that he as had character issues since high school. Thats why he ended up in a small college and then got overlooked in the draft.

Opposing teams would do well by double-teaming Allen or having the QB bootleg away from him on most occasions in the 1st half. JA simply loses his legs/burst and the OT has his moves figured out in the 2nd half.

He was on his contract year last year. Lots of players play better then, I do not expect him to be as good as last year.

The one thing I love to see is how everyone talks about the lack of sacks he had in the second half last year. I believe it is well known he is not very productive against the run though. Last year in the second half of games, how many teams took the plan of just run it down their throat and take time off the clock. We were already down by enough that it didn't matter. I am not saying he doesn't drop off in the second half, but it takes more than last years stats to prove it.

Chiefnj2

Everyone knows that Allen's success in KC was due to his surrounding talent. Without Gunther, Herm and players like Reed and Edwards, Allen will be lucky to even crack the starting lineup.

Uh, wrong.

There was one game that we had been blown out in the first half - at Denver.

Otherwise, we were either leading or tied in exactly HALF of our games last year - and other than the game at Denver, were NEVER down by more than 10 at half.

Down at half:

By 17

By 10 (4 times)

By 7 (Twice)

By 5

Tied at half twice

Leading at half:

By 13

By 6

By 4 (Twice)

By 2

how many sacks did he have the year before?? 7 or 8. didnt even lead our team. what about the year before? he had one huge season in a contract year and now he's the next DT, LT(the real one), strahan, or reggie white? i dont think so but this year and next will start to show

12-13 sacks.

He'll be pissed at about Week 8 or 9 when his QB can't do shit and everyone is stuffing AP.

I would say 12 is a minimum but he'll probably get more like 17 or 18 if he stays healthy. The players around him in Minn. are much better than what he had here.
