I know this belongs in "The Media Center" but I wasn't sure I would get an immediate response there.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

I'm having difficulty getting my 3 1/2 floppy drive to recognize the disks I put in. It keeps saying that they need to be formatted; even those disks that I know have already been formatted. At start up I get this error message: "02B0: Diskette drive A error". <O:p<O:p</O:p

Anyone have any ideas how I can fix this? Assuming, of course, it can be fixed.<O:p<O:p</O:p

Thanks in advance. :)

You still have a floppy drive?

Sounds like you're putting 1.44 disks into a 720 drive to me.

Yeah I have an older PC and some things I'd like to transfer to CD.

Nope I checked that in the BIOS settings.

You can lie to the bios. Check the floppy drive itself. What color is the light?

I'm hoping that the drive itself hasn't gone bad because I really don't want to go shopping for another one.

Is the older pc so old that it doesn't have a usb? If it has usb, I would use a flash drive to xfer the info.

Yes, except the info I want to extract is on a floppy. I'm in the middle of getting my tech training so I may be missing your meaning here.

Oh, I thought the info was on the old pc and you were using the floppies to get the info. In that case, the floppy probably is bad. Good news is, floppies are dirt cheap. $5-10 at any computer store, or you can get a usb floppy for 15-20. I would do that. It would be the easiest option.

08-23-2008, 01:27 AM
Seriously though - you want me to send you one? I probably have one lying around somewhere.

Yeah, I'll google it and see what kind of online deals I can get.

Thanks.

Dude - I'm warning you in advance that I'm not dependable shipping crap in a timely manner - especially when it's free stuff. I'm happy to do it but I'm pretty busy. I didn't even get home until nearly 11:00 tonight. If you're in a hurry just bite the bullet.

I threw out all the spares I had left about a year ago. They sat in a closet getting no use for almost 2 years before that.

I haven't bought a new drive in probably 8 years, but they are only about eight dollars and easy as hell to swap out.

I remember those things, damn I hate them. Get an 8 disk backup using the slick ol `pkzip -&exrp` and end up with disk 7 bad and having to start all over again. The odd thing about those is the one I had floating around loose in my back lasted for years, the ones I kept in cases almost always went to crap. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrgggg....

You live in Independence KS, right?
Bring the floppies by the radio station (KIND) and I'll copy em to a thumbdrive or a CD for you. If you wanna do that, I'll be there tomorrow morning. Shoot me a PM & let me know.

Hey, I still have a Bernouli drive in my closet. (most of you likely have no clue what that is).

Are your disks still good?

I used to backup sermons on 3.5s. When going back to get parts of those to drop in new sermons, I found that some of the disks weren't reading anymore, no matter which computer I put them in. I backed everything else up onto CD then.

No big deal. I appreciate the offer but I think I'll just check to see what tigerdirect or newegg has. I figure that they aren't that expensive; I'll just swap it out.

Yeah, I've tried them in another machine that I have. The problem is that machine only has a CD ROM, not R/W.

I wish floppies were dead but unfortunatly they are not, especially when you have to install windows server 2003 on a machine without a floppy drive. ****ing windows install only option for F6 drivers is to use a floppy. Thankfully a usb one will do the trick.
