View Full Version : Chiefs Trade LJ, cut McIntosh

Okay, maybe the title didn't get much interest. I will try again.:D

I have been hearing people say how we should trade LJ or cut Mcintosh, but they are shot down by others who say we can't due to the salary cap and their contracts. Is that really the case though? I mean, McIntosh only recieved a $5million signing bonus. His cap number this year is $2.7million. Since we counted 850,000 last year, his prorated bonus would be 4,150,000. It is after June first, so that amount could be split, making the cap hit a little over 2mil. a savings on the cap. LJ had a 12mil bonus over 6 years making his a harder hit. split it over 2 years and it is 5mil this year. His cap number is 5.6 mil for this year. Not to mention, last I heard we had 27mil in cap space in March. I know we did not use all that up, probably not even half of it, so the bonuses could probably be absorbed in this years cap. Am I right? Or am I missing something. Here is a list of players cap numbers for this year.

You think LJ has trade value?

Yes. considering we traded Simms last year, and shanarat got Dre Bly out of Bell, so why couldn't we get something out of LJ. We have plenty of good backs now. Denver has done well trading away backs for players in position of need. I think we could as well.

Well then you couldn't be more wrong. The Chiefs cant trade him now. The time for that was last year before he signed the huge contract.

Well, I'm here to say, you're a dumbshit.

No ONE will trade for a soon to be 29 year-old RB coming off major injury in which he missed 9 games and most of the offseason.

You wanna trade him for 5th round pick? Fine

YOU'RE FIRED

You worked through the cap but forgot to consider that he has no trade value. That went out the window two years ago.

Dude, I think you just crossed some unholy Bible Belt line into some sort of weird, sado-masochistic porno dimension.

I'm glad you're poor...

First of all, LJ had a broken bone in his foot. Not exactly a career damaging injury.

Secondly, LT is already 29 and coming off an injury to his MCL. I'm sure anybody would trade for him. I see conflicting arguments on here a lot. Maybe it's not from the same people, but if we are rebuilding and continuing to try and mesh this team for down the road then why not get the cancer(LJ) out and play the younger running backs who could actually thrive in this system?

And just because big name trades don't happen doesn't mean it couldn't be worked out. It might not be like Madden, but front office guys get paid a nice amount of money to fiddle around with contracts.

With that said..franchise politics will not allow an LJ trade.

I guess I should clarify. I wasn't actually advocating that KC trade LJ. I was merely addressing the idea that we could not cut him due to the cap. Although, if we could get a good player in a position of need in trade, I would consider him expendable. I think he does still have trade value. McIntosh, on the other hand, I think can and should be cut immediately.

Judging by his past performance, and current (dis)abilities, I do believe MacIndouche's days are numbered as a Chief.

LJ on the otherhand, will be just fine.

Furthermore, if we keep trading our best players, what's the point of developing young players to be good? So we can trade them? The Chiefs are NOT the Kansas City Royals.

Coogs
08-24-2008, 12:17 PM
I really think the Chiefs should keep all options open. The trade deadline is like six or seven weeks into the regular season.

Personally, I see a good foundation of young talent being assembled. But we need a lot more. If one of the SuperBowl contenders would happen to lose their top RB before that trading deadline, I wouldn't be at all upset if the Chiefs would pick up the phone and see if LJ might be a solution to that teams need.

Lots of good talent in this next years draft... and that talent is in areas of need for our team.

The title served its purpose. I posted this thread twice last night. The first time, I titled it Salary Cap Numbers. It quickly fell off the front page. Since I was unable to change the title, I started this thread with an identical topic, but with this title. Lo and behold, it is still on the front page the next day.

Trading LJ at this point isn't realistic. I can't see us getting much for him.
Unless a starter for a serious contender goes down and some team is in dire need.

McIntosh should definitely be cut though. He's flat terrible.
Our young guys (Taylor, Richardson) couldn't possibly be any worse.

I was talking to someone last week who knew McIntosh when he was at KSU, and apparently he's a complete baby that does nothing but blame other people for his suck. One of their conversations included him complaining about the coaches not starting him (when he was with Miami, I believe), and apparently he got all sand-in-the-'gina when she basically said "well, maybe you should listen to them?".

Not that anyone really needed that insight to come to the conclusion that he's uncoachable and will never improve, but whatever....

I have lost faith in LJ, but right now I doubt we could get much more in a trade for him than we could for McIntosh. LJ's salary hit combined with the last 2 years performances would rule out anyone that's not extremely desparate for a RB IMO.

I don't know. I think he has trade value. I wish Anderson was playing betterr, so Cleveland would consider trading Quinn. I would give LJ and Croyle in a trade for Quinn and a 4th. I think that is a trade that makes sense for both teams. Cleveland needs a RB and if they trade Quinn, a solid backup. My trade gives them that. I still wish they had cut McIndouche too.

I don't recall ever seeing a trade like that take place in the NFL and I don't think you ever will.
