Brady says heíll be ready for season opener

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP)óTom Brady says heíll be ready for the New England Patriots opener even if a foot injury keeps him from taking a single snap in exhibition games.

Last seasonís NFL MVP sat out the first three games and plans to tell coach Bill Belichick heís ďfeeling greatĒ in hopes of playing in Thursday nightís final exhibition game at the New York Giants, the team that ruined the Patriotsí unbeaten season by beating them in the Super Bowl.

ďIím hoping Iím always out there,Ē Brady said Monday on his regular weekly appearance on WEEI radio, ďand if I donít play, Iíll be ready for Kansas City.Ē

The Patriots open the regular season at home against the Chiefs.

Brady was not available Monday to other members of the media.

The cause of Bradyís right foot injury hasnít been disclosed, but he did everything the other quarterbacks did during the 15 minutes of practice open to the media Monday. He stretched, ran, did agility drills and dropped back without any apparent restriction when he threw passes.

Without Brady, the Patriots are 0-3 and have played poorly on offense, defense and special teams. Fourth-year backup Matt Cassel has started all three games but has been outplayed by Matt Gutierrez, in his second season with the team.

Asked if he thinks heíll be ready for the opener if he doesnít play in an exhibition game, Brady said: ďYeah, I sure do. Iíve been playing a lot of football, so whether you play or donít play (in the preseason) Iíd be ready, no matter what. Itís up to Coach. I was hoping I could play last week.Ē

Randy Moss missed all four exhibition games last year, his first with the Patriots, then had nine catches for 183 yards in a season-opening win over the New York Jets, including a 51-yard touchdown pass from Brady.

One development that could improve Bradyís chances of playing was two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Matt Lightís return to practice Wednesday for the first time in about a month. That could give the quarterbacks better protection and expose Brady to less risk.

Starting right guard Stephen Neal remains on the physically unable to perform list and hasnít practiced or played in a game.

Wide receiver Wes Welker missed Mondayís practice after injuring his ribs early in Friday nightís 27-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. His 112 catches last season tied T.J. Houshmandzadeh of Cincinnati for the NFL lead.

Belichick didnít give an update on his condition and Welker didnít comment to trailing reporters as he walked in one door of the locker room and out the door at the other end Monday.

Brady, though, sounded upbeat during his radio interview.

ďIím feeling very good,Ē he said. ďI was wishing I could play last week and it didnít happen and itíll be the same thing this week. Iím hoping Iím out there and if Iím not, Iím not. Iím trying to get better as fast as I can in the ways I know how. Itís been making improvement. Thereís no doubt about it.Ē

Good, I don't want them to have any excuses when we beat their sorry asses down in week 1 and show them how an undefeated season is done right.

Oh, hell no. That is funny as shit. The Pats are prolly just playing it up because they are really unsure who their back-up is going to be and need to figure that out.

No he couldn't. Unless he was in a wheel chair. We would have to still run double safety blitz's the whole game to get him, but we'd get him. Maybe.

The biggest issue is whether he will be in sync or not...

... and that may be the only thing we can hope for.

Damon had the misfortune of sitting behind greats such as Dan Marino and Tom Brady when he was younger. Otherwise he would have been a big star, BIG i tell ya  That 6TD game in the 52-51 shootout would be what we all would have witnessed had Huard been a starter in his youth :D

Brady would just check out of that play and hit Welker over the middle all day long...

we wont fool the Pats with anything... We are out classed in coaching and talent...

Take our lumps and move forward without any injuries!
