Some 80,000 supporters will see Obama appear from between plywood columns painted off-white, reminiscent of Washington's Capitol building or even the White House, to accept the party's nomination for president.

He will stride out to a raised platform to a podium that can be raised from beneath the floor.

The show should provide a striking image for the millions of Americans watching on television as Obama delivers a speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

Just making sure. Here:

But the set is designed to evoke the White House and the Lincoln Memorial, not the Acropolis, said staging supervisor Bobby Allen, a Spears set vet.

"We've done Britney's sets and a whole bunch of rock shows, but this was far more elaborate and complicated and we had to do it in far less time," said Allen, of RDA Entertainment.

"The biggest challenge has been making sure we don't damage the playing field underneath."

Asked who is harder to sat isfy - the Democrats or Britney - Allen replied: "I better not answer that."

The curved, columned backdrop does resemble the portico of the White House, and blue carpeting and podium surrounded by white stars is suggestive of the Oval Office, other crew members said.

Not surprising you've become a dedicated Fox News viewer.

I actually read this on a blog earlier today. I wanted it to be reported on the MSM before I commented.

Nonsense. It's one of my favorite movies. The link is not how the structures are the same. The link is the showmanship and stupidity of the geneous behind the structures.

It is now presumptuous for a presidential nominee to evoke presidential imagery. Cool.

I would hope the staging supervisor would know.Any reason to think he designed it, or is this just his opinion on why it was designed this way?

But the set is designed to evoke the White House and the Lincoln Memorial, not the Acropolis, said staging supervisor Bobby Allen.

Like I said, I would hope he knows.

Are you guys aware of how much Greco Roman architecture there is in Washington DC? It's filled with it, complete with statues and monuments like ancient Rome.

We've moved past blasting them for evoking imagery of Greece and now we're blasting them for evoking imagery of our nation's capital.

It's ok, don't be so hard on yourself. Step away from the mirror and take a walk or something.

I'm guessing the original poster has never seen Spinal Tap, which speaks volumes about her character.

That's effing hilarious, dunno if it was supposed to be.

I can see the Supreme Court nominations now. "So tell us your honor, have you or have you not seen Spinal Tap?"
