No. 08-135
August 4, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Governor Palin said. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”

In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, “Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process.”

Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator’s proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Governor Palin said. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.”

The Governor did question the means to pay for Obama’s proposed rebate — a windfall profits tax on oil companies. In Alaska, the state’s resource valuation system, ACES, provides strong incentives for companies to re-invest their profits in new production.

“Windfall profits taxes alone prevent additional investment in domestic production. Without new supplies from American reserves, our dependency and addiction to foreign sources of oil will continue,” Governor Palin said.

Between this, the creationism, the pandering, her views of the VP slot, her corruption investigation, I really can't love this pick any more.

This is worse than the Clarence Thomas appointment.

They ought to put that back up. She makes more sense than Sen. Obama does.

What was that all about?GOP employees swooped in to "clean up" her Wikipedia page by downplaying her Miss Alaska days and adding lots and lots and lots of stuff about how great a governor she's been and how she's fought corruption [citation needed] during her time in office.

You know what kills me? You libs jump all over this story, but apparently you didn't really read it. Let me help you:

She did not say she was pleased with Obama's energy plan...she basically said that she's glad that Obama is down with using the natural gas reserves that Alaska has. She didn't agree with the windfall profits tax that Robin Hood Obama wants to implement, in fact she said
“Windfall profits taxes alone prevent additional investment in domestic production. Without new supplies from American reserves, our dependency and addiction to foreign sources of oil will continue,” Governor Palin said."

She is saying that his friggin plan will multiply our problems, you idiots! Are all libs this stupid or just the ones on this board?!? You dorks are so eager to find something, anything wrong with this woman who has more character and EXECUTIVE experience than Barack the magic moron. It amazes me. I was not a McCain backer until today. I'm all about this nominee. Write her off if you will, she and McCain will be laughing their way to the White House. I can't wait to see her hand Biden his wrinkley old ass...

...the dems never saw this coming. Just wait. Barack will wonder what the hell he did wrong in November when he's not the new POTUS.

Ohhhh, she was CRITICIZING Obama. That must be why they took the press release down today.

Did she get the spot just because she was a woman, ICH? You know, like Obama got 18 million votes because he was just some black guy?

This was a press release? What?

More than likely yes, he picked her because she's a woman. But ironically, she's more conservative than McCain, and she's not your typical chick in politics. Obama is a run of the mill liberal dude, who is a champion for libs because of his race. Name me another woman in politics that is like Palin. And don't say Hutchinson either, cuz that don't fly.

This woman will surprise everyone. I'm actually very confident that she will push the ticket over the top and into the White House.

Do you deny that she has more EXECUTIVE experience than Barack? Do you deny that she is a great communicator, that she is down to earth, that she has more in common with average Americans that Brittany Obama and the Amazing Temple of Awesomness speech? When she got into the Gov Mansion in Alaska, she SOLD THE PLANE that her predecessor bought for the state and got rid of the motorcade...because it was wasteful...what a novel concept...she has an 80% APPROVAL RATING in Alaska, people love her...there is a reason for that and the Dems are about to get there asses kicked by it...She has 5 kids, one downs syndrome, one on his way to Iraq, her husband is an oil rig worker and a commercial fisherman who she works with on the boat, she fishes, she hunts moose and guts the things herself? She has seen and done more that normal people do than Barack "Groomed for the Presidency" Obama has...Hell, she's more MAN than your friggin' plastic champion is...shes probably tougher than both Barack and Biden...although a cage match between her and Michelle "I hate the world" Obama would be interesting...

...I'd put my money on the woman from Alaska...Michelle would probably break a nail...

Check out the other thread called drill drill drill, I like Sarah Palin...watch the video and TELL me she's down with Obama's plan...and again, please read the report in the OP...it does not say what you all so wish it would say...

She was just the Governor of Alaska when Sen. Obama announced his plan. She did two things in response:

1. Agreed that Alaska was open for business.

2. Disagreed with how Sen. Obama proposed to fund his plan.

She ought to direct whoever is responsible to repost the thing immediately.

She's right.

Yes it was a press release (it is still saved on Google), the McClueless staff evidently did not know that.

Which was the worst pick?

Absolutely.

What do you think, Hamas? Harriet Myers or Sarah Palin?

Which was the worst pick?

Harriet Myers was at least a crony, and although she led an undistinguished career as a lawyer, she had 40 years of experience. I often wonder if she was chumming the waters for even more tort reform, if it would have reached the bench, as that is what she specialized in early in her career. Granted, she was also an arch-conservative. Purely an ideological pick and rewarding her for loyal service.

This pick strikes me as worse, in all honesty. I think about the towns I've lived in and the cities I grew up in, and the mayors are always figureheads. They don't really do anything on the civic level when your entire city is 9000 people. That's not executive experience any more than running f*cking student senate is.

She's already had issues raised over corruption, and she seems to be a Katherine Harris "photo op Republican". I mean, really, if she looked like Ann Richards, would anyone know who she is?

She's horribly unqualified. She has a f*cking BA in Journalism and she runs the most sparsely populated state in the Union.

There are about 25 cities in the US with more inhabitants than her state.

Here's what I'd like to know. These people who have such a literal view of the Bible, the ones who believe Earth is 6000 years old, and man lived Dinosaurs, etc...also hold all their staunchly anti-gay views b/c of the Old Testament, the very same book that raised numerous and sustained objections over a woman's place against a man. Supporting but never ahead.

How do these people reconcile their beliefs against that without more than a little bit of lying to themselves? But all those people are hypocrites. You can't regulate a business, but by God, we'll tell you who to f*ck and what hole to put it in. GFY, seriously.
