View Full Version : U.S. Issues July 16th 1992... What if Perot stays in?

On July 16, Perot unexpectedly dropped out of the presidential race.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_Perot#cite_note-4) He was in a close race or even ahead in polls at the time[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]. Perot eventually stated the reason was that he received threats that digitally altered photos would be released by the Bush campaign to sabotage his daughter's wedding.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_Perot#cite_note-5) Speculation remains that Perot simply did not want to be president and the whole campaign was self-serving[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)].

Regardless of the reasonings for the drop-out, his reputation was damaged. Many of his supporters felt betrayed and public opinion polls would subsequently show a large negative view of Perot that was absent prior.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_Perot#cite_note-6)

Votes played out like this:

Bill Clinton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Clinton)/Al Gore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Gore) (D) - 44,909,806 (43.0%) and 370 electoral votes (32 states and D.C. carried)
George H. W. Bush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_H._W._Bush)/Dan Quayle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Quayle) (R) (Inc.) - 39,104,550 (37.4%) and 168 electoral votes (18 states carried)
Ross Perot/James Stockdale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Stockdale) (I) - 19,743,821 (18.9%) and 0 electoral votesOnly July 11th, he was WINNING in most states. I wish he had stayed in... and I wish he had chosen a better VP candidate. he would have won. America would look differently today.

That is all... except this.

Here is his new website.

Clinton still wins.

Perot was a nut. He may have been a brilliant man, but he was a nut.

The whole backout "Oh, GHB was going to distribute false pics of my daughter being a lesbian".

The guy was scared because there was a small chance that people would actually vote him into office.

Perot was not going to win, ever.

Even if he somehow made it to the debates with a lead, he would have crucified himself there, just as he did in the non-alternate universe.

I think Perot might have won. Dropping out and coming back in made him look unstable, and picking Stockdale was the kiss of death.

I don't think he would've won, but I'll always be convinced the ex-CIA chief had more on him than daughter's pics.
