Another Interesting story about Palin.

Earlier this year she addressed the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP). The main goal of their party according to their website: http://www.akip.org/index.html

The Alaskan Independence Party can be summed up in just two words:
<center>ALASKA FIRST!</center>Until we as Alaskans receive our Ultimate Goal, the AIP will continue to strive to make Alaska a better place to live with less government interference in our everyday lives. The Alaskan Independence Party's goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:1) Remain a Territory.
2) Become a separate and Independent Nation.
3) Accept Commonwealth status.
4) Become a State.

Statehood

Please see the goal (http://www.akip.org/goal.html) of the AIP.
Alaska has never been an equal state.
Feds create and enforce laws which are only in effect in Alaska
Many in the AIP support INDEPENDENCE. Some support COMMONWEALTH and others support STATEHOOD.
It is the AIPs wish to get a true plebecite according to international law, only legal Alaskan citizens, it is in the language of the people, federal military and their dependants are not legal citizens and will not be allowed to vote in this plebescite

I don't know one way or another if she supports secession but by her addressing their conference and calling them important you can see where that idea comes from.

How would you feel if she did support secession and would that matter to you?

If Alaska did seceed from the United States and became their own nation, we would be there within days so we could occupy them steal their OIL.

I know! That bitch!

Next you'll be telling me that AIP publicly blame the US Government for infecting the world with AIDS!!!

Yes I did and other than more political parties (which I agree with) I don't have a clue.

Also she doesn't mention America or the United States once.

It only says she addressed them.

And I'd love it if she did support secession, as it's a power check and balance against the Federal govt getting to big for it's britches. Vermont has threatened to secede too because of Bush's war. One of our philosophical founding documents is all about this. Meanwhile, there's nothing in the Constitution that disallows it.

I think it very clearly means THEY'RE A DIFFERENT PARTY THAN HERS....

... hence, "competition."

And I think you clearly know that.

She's performing in her role as Governor welcoming a big convention to town.

Duh!

Heh. I wonder what the Inuit words for "Reconquista" and "Aztlán" are?

It'd be nice if they tried to secede. Nothing like a re-occupation of formerly secessionist territories to remind people that this nonsense was settled quite nicely back in 1865. :D

How would you feel if Obama did support blowing up Army bases (Ayers) and would that matter to you?

I don't know one way or another if he does....

That's why Vermont and some other states from time to time threaten it?
I was not ever settled legally. It was settled through force. It could happen again.
If one thing is certain in the history of this planet borders do not stay the same forever.

Not a bad idea. Local politics are closer to those being governed.

Dumb comparison.

It's a perfect extension of your logic...

... throw out a completely off-the-wall accusation based on the flimsiest association, and then hide behind the "just sayin'" excuse.

It's every bit as dumb as your original.

Why? It's the guilt by association charge again. Candidates have to speak to different kinds of groups to get elected. Maybe they were an important one up there. I know the western states still have a lot more independent frontier spirit than the other states. But a governor who can tell the Feds when to back off if they go to far, can actually prevent that secession from occurring. I'll bet she's a strong state's rights type is all it means here.

There is no guilt by association because she used to be a member. Also when Obama releases a video saying how important Ayers is let me know

dated October of 2007, the Vice Chairman of the AIP claims that McCain's VP pick "was an AIP member": "Our current governor who I mentioned at the last conference, the one we were hoping would get elected, Sarah Palin, did get elected . . . .and there was a lot of talk about her moving up. She was an AIP member before she got the job as mayor . . . "

Obama was a member of some groups with questionable characters and ideals. ( Libertation Theology)
One for 20 years. It's the same type of comparison. It's just not regarding your guy or on issues you feel are right.
Now I personally don't care, because to me secession is a last resort to tell the Feds to take a hike when state's are stomped on too hard.

In her introductory speech, Palin said Hillary Clinton and her campaign were important.

Is Palin a Democrat?

Also, when Obama says ANYTHING AT ALL about his work with Ayers they'll find me passed out on the floor.

Obama has been vetted this lady hasn't so anything questionable is going to raise concerns.

She and you should just admit she is a radical right-wing ideologue.

Not radical to me at all. That's just your opinion because you're liberal.
She's independent and got Ds to sign her anti-corruption effort at least.
Once again, you have no personal knowledge on her not being vetted at all.
The right likes her. The left hates her. Does anyone expect anything different.
And the issues you don't like her stands on should remain with her state and or local areas not the Fed govt. Centralizing such things politicizes such things which leads to more contention. I applaud her efforts in keeping Alaska as indepedent as can be from Washington DC.

First off I am not a liberal I am an independent and looking at her very shallow opinions on subjects she is extreme right wing and doesn't fit what middle-class Americans believe like teaching creationism and abstinence-only in school.

In the beginning I was impressed with her reform outlook until more information came out that she actually didn't reform anything and lied about it.

Also I have no problem with her wanting to keep Alaska independent but to be part of a group that wants to secede from America is extreme and anti-American.

And to add one final comment, MSNBC is reporting she now has hired a lawyer for her role in that firing so I think she knows she is in trouble.

You may be an independent with regard to party affiliation but Independents still fall somewhere on the spectrum. I see you as a liberal, just not too liberal. NTTAWWT. You lean toward bigger govt as opposed to smaller. Healthcare is another issue that puts you there. I know Indies that are right wing ideologues too. Some are moderate.

Look I know you have a vested interest in seeing your guy elected so you're on the attack. But there is no proof she lied...or yet. That's coming from left-wing sources.

Also I have no problem with her wanting to keep Alaska independent but to be part of a group that wants to secede from America is extreme and anti-American.
Actually it's very American because the Framers rejected the idea of using any force to keep a state in the Union and you can find that in the notes from the CC. I don't want to hijack this thread though. I've debated that here several times with documentation linked. Secession was a check and balance and some states have threatened on and off since the Civil War. I believe even recently over the real ID stuff coming out of Washington.

And to add one final comment, MSNBC is reporting she now has hired a lawyer for her role in that firing so I think she knows she is in trouble.
Sounds like it has more to do with the attack from the left. And maybe someone wants revenge on her for it so is aiding it with their side of events. She has a right to defend herself. No? I think you want her in trouble because it helps your candidate, or think it does.

It depends on the issue, social issues I lean mostly left except on immigration and foreign policy\national security I lean right except with Iraq.

Look I know you have a vested interest in seeing your guy elected so you're on the attack. But there is no proof she lied...or yet. That's coming from left-wing sources.

There is proof from her statements she made about the bridge to nowhere. She was for it, then against it because it was getting national attention, and then she was for it again once the attention went away. Also she didn't send that money back she spent it on other things.

In this day and age people who believe in secession are whack jobs and are usually thought of as anti-American. Only extremists believe in secession.
