In terms of debate points, I think it was probably close to even. Obama missed some opportunities.
In terms of how it benefits the two politically, I think Obama accomplished more in showcasing himself on foreign policy.
This election is ultimately going to be an indictment on whether or not people want Obama. McCain's not going to wow anyone.
I haven't seen the full debate but I bet I know how this poll will turn out.

I wonder if they even set out to win. I think that they have other objectives to prove. I noticed that McCain was fairly busy trying to show that he is or was a maverick and trying to distance himself from Bush.

I thought that was last election.....either that or people say that when they don't like their parties candidates, I personally like Obama so I don't feel that way.

Conservatives tend to be the main ones saying that both candidates suck. Since conservatives, of course, don't like Obama, they're basically just admitting that their own candidate sucks while trying to hide behind some mantel of objectivity.

Neither candidate seemed particularly prepared for the format and in the early going seemed to stick with points straight out of their stump speeches, which tended to favor Obama. It was clear that neither candidate was comfortable discussing the as yet unfinished bailout plan.
Both candidates missed some obvious killer blows. McCain could have brought up Obama's ties to Freddy/Fanny and votes against regulation thereof. Obama could have made reference to McCain's 'experence' stemming from the Keating and RTC days.
As the debate went on, it was clear that McCain had a better handle on international affairs, but Obama stuck to his talking points and didn't appear to be in over his head.
Both met pre-debate expectations. No soundbytes or gaffes. Slight win for McCain.
I call it a tie because Obama appeared more comfortable and in control for the first 20 minutes that was probably the only part watched before millions changed the channel.

I don't know about hiding behind anything, but the only conservative admission here is that McCain isn't conservative enough. In related news, the far left "admit" that they are very happy with their candidate this time around.

To me, these two candidates are the best presidential candidates that I have seen in quite some time. Compared to the last two elections, for sure. At least there is a clear distinction between the two, unlike Bush/Gore and Bush/Kerry.
