I wouldn't write it off. If Palin were Obama's running mate I would have to conclude that Obama was not nearly as smart as I thought he was. In that scenario I wouldn't vote at all. I don't have near as much problem with McCain as I do with Palin. I disagree with McCain about a lot of things but the man is certainly smart and qualified, as are Obama and Biden.
