he definitely would have.

my issue with larry johnson is that, though he's had his moments, he doesn't seem to run like he used to, just ripping through people like a freight train.

on that 65 yard run, charles is in the end zone 5 or 10 yards ahead of his pursuers. johnson didn't make it, it was #55 falling down and from there he might as well have been running down the middle of an airstrip it was so wide open.

i would like to see him develop that mean streak again. it seems to have diminished somewhat

He's as fast as he was in 2006 when he put up 1789 yards. He was caught from behind on several long runs that year.

I don't know if Charles would have been able to run through #20 or not. It's not like nobody tried to tackle LJ- LJ did a bit of bullying which surely slowed him down. In either case, I can't understand complaining about a guy that just ran for 200 effing yards and two TDs.

He's not the best power back in the league and I don't think he has ever been that...in all honesty, I think he's more of a finesse back than a power back...

Well he has been mediocre-at-best this year. Don't let his garbage time runs today fool you, Sproles has been more effective this year. Either way, its Philip Rivers' team now, not Tomlinson's.

Short Leash Hootie

It would be nice if Scary was an all purpose back, but he isn't...

If he has a hole, and he can get to the second level of the defense, he's as good of a runner as anyone in the league.

I'm glad we have two very capable third down/change of pace backs in Charles and Smith.

I'm ok with LJ through 2010 as long as he keeps running how he can, he's only going to get better as our line progresses.

He most definitely hasn't lost a step or his burst...the lack of tread on his tires really shows because he looks like the same back, IMO, as he did in 2005/2006...he just doesn't have two hall of famers, another all-pro blocking for him along with an unpredictable proven offensive system to compliment his strengths.

Could you imagine how good we could have been had Kolby Smith, Jamaal Charles or Priest Holmes (healthy) would have been simply utilized like the Chiefs are using them now back in 2005 with Vermeil?

A real 3rd down back, not Tony Richardson?

2005 still makes me sick because I truly thought we were the best team in the NFL we just didn't get the bounces...which are most definitely important in the NFL (see Denver, could easily be 0-4)...

LJ has definately done his part this year no doubt about it. My only problem with him is when things go wrong he cries to the press. I"m not saying he is wrong about what he says but he needs to keep that shit in house. Saying it in a public forum just cries "trade me." Which is what we should do with him and TG if there is any trade value for them. It would be good for us to stockpile some picks and good for them to play for a better team. Sadly, these players won't be able to contribute by the time this team is ready to truely compete. As long as they are Chiefs I will continue to root for them but I don't think it's wrong to look at the big picture either. That is if anyone would give us anything for them.

RB Larry Johnson Named FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week

Oct 03, 2008, 1:29:09 PM

The NFL informed the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday afternoon that RB Larry Johnson was selected by fans on NFL.com as the FedEx Ground Player of the Week for his efforts in the Chiefs 33-19 victory vs. Denver last Sunday. In addition to the award, FedEx is making a $1,000 donation in the name of Johnson to the Safe Kinds USA coalition in Kansas City.

Johnson (6-1, 230) was awarded the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award after logging the fourth-best single-game rushing performance in Chiefs history, posting 28 carries for 198 yards and two TDs in the Chiefs first victory of the season. He now leads the AFC in rushing yards with 415 yards on 86 carries. This is the third time that Johnson has won the award (vs. Denver 12/24/05; vs. Cincinnati 1/1/06).

2008 FedEx Ground NFL Players of the Week

Week One: RB Michael Turner, Atlanta
Week Two: RB Darren McFadden, Oakland
Week Three: RB Ronnie Brown, Miami
Week Four: RB Larry Johnson, Kansas City

I like what LJ is doing. Hopefully Herm half-benching his ass has pissed him right the fuck off and somebody dies for it.

I freaking LOVED watching LJ run last week. He was cutting nicely (beautifully) and hot damn was he laying some lumber. FUCK YEAH!

That being said, Denver's D is LJ's wet dream. They are all small and have given up lots of yards to everybody.

But I'm really hoping LJ is BACK!

I agree with BeachTribe though. We HAVE to have better QB play.

Also, we need the Defense, receiving and Oline to continue to improve. I have a feeling this coaching staff is staying regardless and I hope they also prove me completely wrong and can develop this team. Because I'm a Chiefs fan no matter what and I have no choice as long as they are here.

I don't think they want to waste a year on a rookie quarterback. There is going to be tremendous pressure on this regime to make the playoffs next year.

I think he can run well this week,as long as Chan keeps mixing it up. If we go back to running constantly up the middle then no,he won't run well this week. Your right though,Carolina has a good defense, unlike Denver and Atlanta,so we'll see.

Der Flöprer
10-04-2008, 02:50 AM
There will be a good mix of run and pass as long as Damon is our QB. This offense will look much better with Huard behind Center. That much should be obvious. Of course, the line will have to hold up for that to happen. If last week was a precursor though, good things should come.

I don't think Carolina is going to be able to run the ball well with their line situation so I think if we can score 20 we'll win.

Did he have a great game because he is starting to grow up or is Denver's run D that bad? I will go with the latter. He showed this in college. Had big games against mediocre to bad opponents and did very little in big games. Don't get me wrong, I think he is talented but emotionally imature. The most impressive play he made all game was 3rd and 13...he stood in there, took a massive hit and delivered a 15 yard pass perfectly to Bowe.

Lienart is a bad fit for Whisenhunt's vertical passing game.

He'd be a good fit for this offense doing the same things that Huard does, that is managing the game, and making plays in the short to medium passing game, only he'd be better at it.

Hell, I'd throw a 3rd round pick at Arizona and see if we could shake him loose, then we could use the first rounder on a DE.

I keep hearing about Leinart's head not being in it. I don't recal exactly what Leaf's head was screwed with but in ML's case I've heard he is more into partying and womanizing than into football. If you can't put your heart and attitude in it, the result is the same. All that said, I admit my comparison was a bit harsh, but in this day and age a team can't afford a QB who doesn't have his priorities straight.

Some of us are NOT haters. We just believe that he is a selfish player, not a reliable receiver from the backfield, and doesn't want to block. One good game is not enough to reassure us on all accounts. That said, IMO this was the best game I have ever seen him play. Mostly due to the cuts he made. I still think if we could absorb his contract we should really consider a good trade offer (in players and/or draft pick) for him.

I think fans should start calling out other 1st round picks that haven't put up numbers like a 1st round pick is expected to. T.O. has played in S.F., Philly and now Dallas. taems that get a lot of national media coverage, and they love show us eveything that T.O. does, so we see all the stupid antics, and hear all the stupid shit.

So how many yards did LJ have today?

Frankie
10-05-2008, 03:13 PM
it pretty bad when the Herm gave up on running the ball when it was 14-0. If LJ where to get any carries this game he'd have to strip the ball out of Huards hands every snap. This was not LJ's fault. He had only 7 carries.

1- When things are not going well, this guy quits. He gets superstar money. Superstars play each game like they want to carry the team on their shoulders. Like they wanna make a diff. :shake:

2- Did you watch his pass blocking today. Fariba who is new enough to the game to mostly only recognize passes and runs even pointed out how LJ whiffed on a couple of blocks.

I hope as soon as he gets one of those 198 yard games against a jelly defense there is a playoff hopeful out there in dire need of a RB. When is the trade deadline? We have enough cap room to take his ill-awarded contract and survive.

LARRY JOHNSON WAS EXPOSED TODAY!

A lot of LJ lovers came to his defense all last week with his 198 yard game. I joked that he did not get 200. Well I was wrong. Today he added the 2 needed yards to make it an even 200.

I'll be here all season and the next and the next defending LJ. You have to admit LJ is not the problem. did LJ kick your dog or something? How can LJ be responsible for the loss today? Look at this so called defense the Chiefs have spent high draft picks on. embarrassing. If LJ had 25 carries for 2 yards then you can have all the room to bash him without me stating the obvious.

The San Diego Chargers in Tomlinson's rookie season had an O-line, anchored by Damion McGinaTosh, that was evey bit as bad, if not worse than, this line, and Tomlinson never sucked out loud like LJ does when this line doesn't make obvious holes.

Great RBs make find ways to get positive yardage consistently.

Last week, when he didn't quit, he was running through holes most of which I could run through. He was making cuts and take secondary routes when straight ahead was not available. This week, he only ran the minimum that the play called for him, never trying to change up like a superstar should. Plus at the risk of repeating myself, he quits on providing good blocks because he is not the player showcased on those plays.

Tony can ask, he can demand, but ultimately, it isn't up to him. I guess he could take a seat and end the streak of games with a catch.

Tony needs to quit talking about himself and start voicing his concerns about the team. He's the one player that would have the best chance of being heard if he would speak out on behalf of the team.

Yes, I won't lie and I'll be a man about it. I felt that this run defense was similar to Denver's and if LJ was able to succeed last week, I thought we could see it again. But I was wrong.

I knew we wouldn't run on them, and figured we'd lose.

Ok so Larry is talented enough. I'll ask you the same question I just asked you, in which I never really got an answer out of. Why did Jamaal Charles outrun LJ? I'm not buying into any of these excuses that 'The offensive line was awful.' Our rookie running back kept his mouth shut and earned more yards than he had carries.

The numbers don't lie.

Rushing ATT YDS TD LG
J. Charles 4 18 0 7

Rushing ATT YDS TD LG
L. Johnson 7 2 0 4

Despite Charles' yards were in the 4th quarter when the Carolina defense really didn't care, it still amazes me how Charles still did better than LJ with only four carries.

I have no idea how LJ manages to earn 198 yards and one week muster two yards. I know you love Larry and you said you'll keep backing him up.
