View Full Version : Money Take a few minutes and contact your local politicians

I'm putting this in this forum on purpose. I implore the members of Chiefsplanet to keep their personal opinions on this and other political matters restricted to the DC forum.

For the first time in my life I contacted my local government representation tonight. I think the reason why is obvious. I know that most of us are far too young to have any real grasp on what the great depression was, and what the people who lived through it suffered.

In my opinion we are at a very critical juncture in our great Nation's history. Very tough decisions lie ahead, and our representatives are empowered to carry out our will. This may seem ridiculous, it may seem downright untrue. And to some degree I'm sure it is.

That said though, I can't begin to tell you how important it is for us to be heard. Now more than ever. We have to let our feelings be known to the people that we vote for on this entire financial mess. Whether you support the bailout, or you don't support the bailout, please, contact your local representatives and senators and express your feelings. Here is a link for you find their contact information. All you have to do is pick which state you live in, and whether you want The House of Representatives, or The Senators. Do it for your family. Do it for your kids. Do it for your country. If you haven't figured out by now that we're in deep shit, you have your head in the sand.

No ****. We are on par with losing as many games as the Raiders. LK who just got fired owned us. He was 2-3 vs. us with a 2 game winning streak.

Whether they do what I and many other want them to do is one thing, but it is encouraging to know that they are at least HEARING it. Thank God it appears that the House will ignore the uninformed nutjobs and will pass this bill tomorrow. Sorry I'm not a sadist, I would prefer to not see thousands of jobs lost due to voting down a bill - that will eventually turn a profit - out of spite.

I've tried to avoid CP's DC/financial discussion the past few days, but this thread was just too much.

Yes, it's amazing how many stoopid people are out there. And the fact that an "educated" politician would actually "listen" to these retards is pretty amazing. What's really happening is we are seeing a politician's #1 priority in action. Fact is that all politicians, regardless of party affiliation, only care about 1 thing.

I haven't made a post on this in DC in days, as most people simply don't understand the situation; they hear the words "bailout" and "Wall Street", and automatically assume this is an awful deal, we're bankrupting our country, stealing from the lower class.....blah blah blah.

The fact of the matter is that we need banks to survive - you Mr. Flopnuts may not, but average America does - and this deal is beneficial in that regard. Considering that we are essentially creating the largest distressed debt fund in the world via this bill, and have an excellent chance of turning a profit when it's all said and done, makes this an absolute no-brainer to pass.

So you'd rather vote politicians into office who will then go against the will of the people who voted them there to represent them?

Listen, the people that are against the "bailout" are for the most part uninformed and are only reacting to the what they hear in the media which is "bailout" and "Wall Street" in the same sentence. They think that the only people benefiting from the bill is Wall Street. They also think we are just throwing away $700b. Fact is that the bill will be buying up mortgage portfolios most likely for pennies on the dollar. These are secured by real estate. So even if it takes 10 years or so, there is a good chance that most of the investment will be recovered. In the meantime the bill also allows terms to be re-negotiated to favor the people who may be foreclosed on. Thus there is benefit to the taxpayer there too.

The pork does suck, but that's just the way the system works. I'd rather see some pork slide thru, than see a total collapse of our financial system, which is what we are on the verge of.

And while I agree that we are bordering on socialism here, the alternative is not viable IMHO.

Wow. Are you writing a check out of pocket for this?

If it doesn't pass, you can write a batshit crazy reply, tell everyone they are idiots and to fuck off, go to bed and then wake up and drive to your empty parking lot because your employer is out of business. Since you will have no income, you will try to live off your credit cards which have frozen your credit line and shrunk it, and you will then decide to take a home equity loan out to survive. Upon calling your lender, you realize that they won't lend you shit, because your house is worth nothing and the lender has subsequently been run out of business. With all options exhausted, you turn to the streets in an unsuccesful attempt to sell your ass for money. Game over.

But cry some more about $100 million coming out of a FEDERAL budget for pork. Please.

Federal legislation is fueled by pork and this bill is no different. It's now a complete obsenity that includes stuff like ...

Tax breaks for rum producers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands,

Tax breaks for some company that manufactures wooden arrows used for children’s toys,

$128 million in tax breaks for the manufacturers of car racing tracks (a bone for the NASCAR crowd),

$10 million in tax breaks to small television and film producers,

and ...

$233 million in tax breaks for the Alaskan fishermen who were affected by the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster.

Although details are sketchy (the bill began as a 3 page document and is now over 1000 pages and the ink isn't dry on much of that), it looks like there may be well over $150 billion in earmarks and pork now attached to the bill.

Oh ... and this is laughable ... the NY Times is reporting that (based on the current language) Britain's five leading high street banks may also qualify for over $175 billion of the original $700 billion.

This isn't news, but Washington is completely out of control. They created this debacle, they don't understand it, and their solution is to print some money while bribing congressmen and senators for their votes. Business as usual.

If this doesn't piss you off, little will.

There is a deep rooted frustration that affects us all. Join us in the presidential thread in a little less than 30 minutes. It will all be addressed by Mr. Flopnuts.

Reading some of the election threads I find everyone has so much more time than me to campaign. It may be tomorrow afternoon before I can begin. Damn this working it is for the birds, *maybe with all that casino cash I could relax a while*:D

Vote for me and I will send nude photos via email to all my supporters!!! ;)

Well it sounds like a good idea, but since 99% are males on here its probably not a fair fight with that idea. I therefore recant.:D

I'm afraid my preconceived notion of "running" got in the way of my comprehension skills.

However, I still think think it's too much work.

Should your campaign not work out Ms. badgirl I will happily consider you for the position of Secretary of Fornication. It's a very important position and a major point of my campaign. You may not achieve the status of President, but dammit you will be important.
