A new poll conducted by SurveyUSA (http://www.surveyusa.com/index.php/2008/10/13/missouri-governor-few-toe-holds-remain-for-republican-hulshof-as-he-tries-to-keep-statehouse-for-gop/) for two media outlets in St. Louis and Kansas City shows Attorney General Jay Nixon leading U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof in the race for governor by 22 points, 56-34.

Three weeks ago, the same polling firm found Democrat Nixon to be leading Republican Hulshof by 17 percentage points.

SurveyUSA's latest tracking poll also shows Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama surging in the polls in the Show-Me State, a traditional bellwether that's picked every presidential contest since 1960.
That poll shows Obama leading Republican John McCain, 51-43 (http://www.surveyusa.com/index.php/2008/10/13/in-missouri-john-mccains-lead-among-white-voters-has-evaporated/). Just three weeks ago, McCain led Obama by 3 points.

The same poll says Obama is gaining his new margins among white voters. Three weeks ago, McCain led Obama among white voters by 11 percent. Now they're tied, according to SurveyUS (http://www.surveyusa.com/index.php/2008/10/13/in-missouri-john-mccains-lead-among-white-voters-has-evaporated/)A.

Pollsters say the nation's economic crisis is not making the election environment friendly for Republicans, who currently hold control of the Missouri's Legislature, governor's mansion and the White House.

The two polls were conducted for KMOX radio in St Louis and KCTV-TV in Kansas City.
