I think it's no Republican President has won without Ohio.

Missouri has the more impressive streak. Every election since 1904 except for 1954, Missouri has gone for the winner.

When was the last time there was no incumbent in the running? Either a sitting president or vice president. I am thinking 1968 but would have to start looking things up at that point.

That's correct.

I'd be willing to bet that George Washington won without carrying Ohio.

Wasn't he a Whig though, not Republican? ;)
