Very interested in what comes about from the Republican party.
Do they embrace the mindset of Palin. Far right, heavy emphasis on social issues, heavy focus on the religious right.
Or can another kind of conservative emerge. Constitution focused. Smaller government, personal freedoms, privacy, old school real conservative values.
What will the fallout be from this election?

Status quo and wait for the inevitable rebound once the pendulum of public opinion swings back again. It's the American Way!

Mark me down for this also.
The RR needs to drift off on their own, maybe start a third party. It's best for them and the pubs.
If real conservatives took over I would be a voter in play.
I doubt it will happen.

It's a good question.
There was a lot of talk tonight on several of the channels about this being indicator of long term change in the electorate. Mostly due to youth and minorities voting more each election and they keep moving the country more and more to the left.
It's been a trend that could largely be attributed to the Internet and new media I'll wager.

Conservatism should win the Republican party now.

The Republican Party has been lost for several years now, and is surviving only out of inertia. I question whether it even has a soul now.

It doesn't. But if someone would like to make the case that it does, I'd entertain the notion.

I just don't know what the future holds for them.
Were democrats in this state post 2004 election? I don't really think so but I could be wrong.

If the republican party would separate itself from the religious right, I might consider changing parties.

Palin in 2012!
I certainly hope so. 8 Barackolicious years baby!!!
But seriously, I'd hope they'd revert to true conservatism instead of this fear-mongering, sellout party they've become.

Unfortunately, I think they'll rally with Palin in 2012 and get beaten handily. It will be then that that part corrects itself.

I could get behind that in a serious way.
Hopefully this faux conservatism has flatlined.

The reason behind my thinking here is that the Republican leaders will decide that this election was not theirs to win. Mostly because of Bush and the economy. They'll write it off as a trap election.
Therefore, it will leave the door open for another attempt from the Republicans of the last 8 years.

I doubt it. Our party is going to reform.

If the Republican party can actually become the party of small government and stop overspending then that would be great.
I'd also like to see it go back to being isolationist and stop sending our troops into expensive wars, because let's be honest here, that's where their spending lies and the military industrial complex is the source of the majority of the pork in congress as well.

I can't believe I agree with you. That's the kind of R I am. Paul said on a video from 1988, changing that alone would make the income tax unecessary and not replaced with anything. Wonder where that sits now? I thought that was an amazing bit of data.

I think isolationist is taking it a bit far but how they convinced their base that being the world's policeman was a conservative value.
I am not even mad about it happening that is amazing.

Even an isolationist supports some interventions. It's really just a very bad word for this idea. Military non-intervention is about not being the world's cop.
