Obama, in harkening back to the hopeful speeches of the primary season, filled with a sense of pragmatism and egalitarianism.

McCain, by stepping out of the shadow cast by his own campaign and showing what made so many people admire him.

It's a rare glimpse that allows you to truly admire politicians, when they are actually honest, contrite, and sincere in their words.

Yep, good speeches by both. The concession and acceptances speeches always mark one of the best nights in American democracy.

Absolutely. Both honorable, respectable men, in my mind.

Poor McCain just never had a chance.

Yep, I especially liked Obama's recount of a 106 years of events and McCain's rebuff of any boos.

I didn't Obama's cause I got online...but I was really impressed with McCain.
Especially his crowd control when the inappropriate boos started....without resorting to his ill tempered tactics. Very impressive.

I agree good speeches by both. But let's not start putting honest in the same context with a politician, regardless of party.

I'm not really a political animal, but I have to admit... Obama's speech gave me the old goosebumps.

Both speeches were excellent. It was unfortunate that the crowd in Arizona felt the need to boo Obama, but McCain quickly made them stop.

Unfortunate? You expected them to cheer? Ever seen Dems cheer when the Dem was the loser and giving their loser speech?

Unfortunate? You expected them to cheer? Ever seen Dems cheer when the Dem was the loser and giving their loser speech?I don't recall. I do know that they cheered McCain tonight.

I suppose the classy response for the Arizona folk would have been to shut the f*ck up and listen to McCain's incredible speech.

It's all relevant to his actions. Tonight, McCain was great. He reminded us of why we admired him. That said, he was rightly criticized during his campaign for betraying his better nature. He didn't have to resort to the sleaze. The disrespect that bubbled up from that crowd last night was the inevitable result of the rabble-rousing that his campaign had engaged in.

But he rose above it and did the right thing for the country. And hopefully he helped to disarm those who would want to carry their irrational hatred forward.

Poor McCain just never had a chance.

McCain had 2 opponents: Obama and Bush's horrible 8-year regime. Hard to impossible for any person to scale that mountain. I didn't vote for the guy, but have the utmost respect for him.

I voted McCain but have resigned to accept the countries overwhelming nomination of Obama for POTUS and I will respect him as the president of my country. But if I hear one person speak ill of McCain today I'm going to put them on there ass . It's easy for a piece of shit like you to do this on the internet.

Not really the hate speech that I was referring to. I just think people should honor him and respect him as he is a good man.

Not really the hate speech that I was referring to. I just think people should honor him and respect him as he is a good man.I agree and have said the same all along. I really like the man and hoped to vote for him in 2000. I might have voted for him this year had his campaign not gone so negative, had he not chosen Palin, had Obama not answered all the questions I wanted to hear him answer. McCain is truly a great American and I wish him nothing but the best. Your previous post to me just demonstrates your ignorance.

Remember this one???

Our nation must rise above a house divided. Americans share hopes and goals and values far more important than any political disagreements.

Republicans want the best for our nation, and so do Democrats. Our votes may differ, but not our hopes.

I know America wants reconciliation and unity. I know Americans want progress. And we must seize this moment and deliver.

Together, guided by a spirit of common sense, common courtesy and common goals, we can unite and inspire the American citizens.

Together, we will work to make all our public schools excellent, teaching every student of every background and every accent, so that no child is left behind.

Together we will save Social Security and renew its promise of a secure retirement for generations to come.

Together we will strengthen Medicare and offer prescription drug coverage to all of our seniors.

Together we will give Americans the broad, fair and fiscally responsible tax relief they deserve.

Together we'll have a bipartisan foreign policy true to our values and true to our friends, and we will have a military equal to every challenge and superior to every adversary.

Together we will address some of society's deepest problems one person at a time, by encouraging and empowering the good hearts and good works of the American people.

This is the essence of compassionate conservatism and it will be a foundation of my administration.

These priorities are not merely Republican concerns or Democratic concerns; they are American responsibilities.

Same as it ever was.Yeah, it's funny how things change once a guy's no longer constantly lobbing bullshit at his opponent.

I'll always have to remember him as the guy who sold his soul for that one last shot, and I'll never forget the neverending barrage of smears and godawful tone his campaign approved of. But I can forgive him, just like I did Hillary (and in the end, she should be thanked for getting those oh so scary "associations" out early). At least he went out on a gracious note.
