Thigpen named Offensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Quarterback Joe Thigpen has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, announced today by the league office.

Thigpen, a sophomore from Crestview, Fla., put together an impressive performance in Birmingham-Southern College’s 49-0 win against Sewanee, Saturday, for Homecoming 2008 and the team’s first game in the new on-campus Panther Stadium. He was 9-of-15 with 157 yards and two passing touchdowns, and he rushed for 94 yards in 12 attempts with three touchdowns on the ground. In all, Thigpen was directly responsible for five of the team’s six touchdowns in the shutout.

The Panthers are back at home in Panther Stadium this Saturday, Nov. 15, to close out the season, taking on No. 4 Millsaps in a noon kickoff.
