How on earth could any sane person prefer soccer over football?

And before anyone gives me that "most popular sport on earth" spiel, the only reason that's the case is that most of the world doesn't get NFL Network.

Its popular because it is cheap to play.. cleats, shin guards and a ball..

I like playing soccer but not over football..

Only time I watch is world cup or the US team play anyone..

Over time, I've figured out that almost any sport is fun to play, and almost any sport is boring to watch. Football is interesting to watch. Sumo is interesting to watch. Oddly, volleyball is halfway interesting to watch. Most other sports? Not so much.

If your team's owner can't get in the car and drive to the facilities at least five days a week, that should MORE than tell you where his priorities lie.

Oddly, I don't know that I've ever seen a rugby match, so I don't know. I think that Australian Rules Football kind of runs in the "interesting to watch" camp, though.

i dont fully understand rugby's rules, but i've been bored and watched it on tv. they line up like 6-7 across with several guys behind them. both teams do this face to face. then someone for some reason throws the ball in betwen the two lines(they are about a foot apart) when the ball goes in, the two teams SLAM into one another to try for the ball( the guys in back shove their teammates into the other team. )
I probably just did a HORRIBLE job of explaining it but the hits are pretty vicious. Hope you get the gist of it

Soccer is the original football. That said soccer blows. It's for grade school kids and foreigners. Nothing against grade school kids or foreigners.

I bet nobody cares about the sheer cohesiveness and pride soccer fans bring to the table on a weekly basis.

Because it's soccer.

I don't really enjoy soccer, but my buddy's big into it and I started watching a few games. Those who rip on soccer haven't watched a game. It's not as physical as football, but it's a hell of a lot more physical than basketball or (obviously) baseball. It's basically hockey except you can't check players into the boards, and there's a lot more pushing and shoving.

And after attending soccer matches, even at an MLS game, I would also agree that there's a whole lot more rowdiness at soccer games. I was at the game when the Columbus Crew went up against some European soccer team. A European soccer fan took off his shirt in the supporter section and he was completely tatted up with West Ham tattoos. About 50 fans started dumping beers and pouring stuff all over him and punches were flying all over the place. Probably the rowdiest game I've ever been to. I told my buddy that, and he said that in Europe, it's a lot more hardcore. Hooligans have ripped out benches and started clubbing other fans with them. You think it's bad showing up to a Raiders game in Chiefs gear, these European hooligans will put you in a hospital if you pulled that off.
