Chiefs notebook: Saints will be without Reggie Bush (http://www.kansascity.com/sports/story/891567.html)

Bush not available

The Saints will come to Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday without injured running back Reggie Bush. New Orleans had hinted all week that Bush would return from the knee injury that kept him out the last two weeks, but the Saints declared him out on Friday’s injury report.

Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said five starters (guard Adrian Jones, defensive end Tamba Hali, linebackers Pat Thomas and Derrick Johnson and cornerback Brandon Flowers) plus their third cornerback (Patrick Surtain) would not play against the Saints.

Officially, all six players are listed on the injury report as questionable. Edwards also said defensive end Turk McBride and running back Jamaal Charles would play. Safety Jarrad Page is listed as probable.

The Saints also said three other starters (cornerback Aaron Glenn, center Jonathan Goodwin and fullback Mike Karney) also wouldn’t play because of injuries.

Injury-depleted teams

The extensive injury reports only tell part of the story for the Saints and Chiefs. The Saints have 10 players out for the season because of injuries. On the list are their best pass rusher, Charles Grant, and their top cornerback, Mike McKenzie.

The Chiefs’ list is much shorter but includes their two top quarterbacks heading into the season, Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard.

Edwards and New Orleans coach Sean Payton could commiserate when they get together during pregame warm-ups.

“We’ll check each other’s list,” Edwards said. “They’re nicked up, too. But their quarterback (Drew Brees) and their receivers aren’t nicked. They’re pretty good there.”

We'll lose by 41 - 38 in the final 30 seconds of the game, preserving our #2 draft pick!
