This is the Chiefs we're talking about! Even near-perfection is too much to ask!

Sorry if being in 6-10 purgatory isn't appetizing.

You guys really are like addicts.

The difference?

We actually want to hit rock bottom, so that we can recover from there. You just want to eke out a meager existence.

Fuck that. I'm fucking tired of mediocrity. I'm tired of true fans. I'm tired of dipshits who think that the fucking spread offense is a panacea. I'm tired of people who think that our players are better than they are. I'm fucking tired of being a team without impact players and playmakers. I'm fucking tired of not having a franchise quarterback. I'm fucking tired of people buying wins on credit, and being too goddamned myopic to see what is going to happen when the bill comes due in the draft.

Clark will retain Herm because he believes in the need to rebuild. Right or wrong Herm will get his time. He'll get his picks to play with.

No matter the final standings Herm is here for 2 more years.

That's all fine. I have no problem with that.

But grown adults acting like fucking children over draft position?

To see someone say that we can't get talented players in the Top 5 of each round? That's alarmist, and flat-out bullshit.

There are players that are going to make an impact on an NFL roster next year, and the years following from ALL rounds in the draft.

I want a meager existence?

Wrong.

Don't confuse that with someone who just isn't going to have a fucking hissy-fit over something (draft slot) he has no control over.

Here's the point I made in the game thread:

Cromartie or Hali?
Eric Wright or Turk McBride?
Brady Quinn or Dwayne Bowe?
Igor Olshansky or Junior Siavii?

Now, when you compound that with the fact that it becomes more and more apparent that Thigpen isn't the answer and there is almost nothing at QB in this draft, and you have a further postponement of what it will take to get us to contender status.

Dude...

There were just as many solid picks BEHIND where we picked that would have been great additions.

Hali or... Davin Joseph, Nick Mangold or Mathias Kiwanuka?

McBride or...Ryan Harris or Ryan Kalil?

Siavvi or...Bob Sanders, Tank Johnson or Travis LaBoy?

Hell, I'm not sure how you could possibly complain about the selection of Bowe...I'm a fan of Brady Quinn, but he hasn't shown much in his limited play. Maybe he pans out, maybe he doesn't. We know that Bowe is working out...

The point is that where ever you pick, there are players available that will help your franchise.

While I want a great draft pick, I just can't stomach getting swept by the Raiders. We'll get a top 5 and we'll be fine. It will probably just save us spending a ton of money on a number one that might or might not pan out.

Plus, most of the great QBs in this league weren't number one picks.

The Bengals picked Jack Thompson at third overall in the same draft that Joe Montana fell to the third round.

Tom Brady - 6th round
Johnny Unitas - 9th round
Roger Staubach - 10th round

In fact only 3 number one QB picks have gone on to be hall of famers. (Elway, Bradshaw, and Aikman)

Our first round should be for defense, specifically trying to put some pressure on opposing QBs which is clearly our biggest concern.

What pick in the draft has produced more?

Maybe no one specific pick, but the point is that there is plenty of talent in a typical draft. Sure a #1 is exciting but the drop off is not what people seem to think. This is especially true of QBs whose production in college so often is not a great indicator of what they will do in the NFL.

I did an analysis that basically says your chances of getting a franchise QB are about the same if youL

1. Draft a QB in the first round

-OR-

2. Draft a QB in every round except the 1st.

Which strategy do you advocate?

kysirsoze
11-30-2008, 08:32 PM
drafting in the first round isn't the same as 1st overall.
