View Full Version : FFL Playoffs

I won the first game of the playoffs in my FFL!!!! I'm not sure if you guys remember me posting about the guy that I absolutely could not stand in our league. Asking me if my dad was going to help me during our draft, offering me multiple lopsided trades, etc. I thought, for sure, that he was going to lose this week, but he managed to pull one off (I doubt the other guy's kicker will get him the points necessary to win). So, I am facing him next week. In this league, I've gone from not wanting to finish last, to wanting to win a playoff game to at least get some money. I've accomplished that. My ultimate goal in this process has been to do better than this guy. Looks like it comes down to our game next week. If I win that, I'm in the Super Bowl!!!

Good luck. I hope you lay the much deserved smack down on him. When you do maybe you can offer him some assistance next year. :D

Our playoffs start next week.

Depending on how much Washington does or doesn't score, I'm up 102-32 right now. and my opponent this week is already done.. I really hope I can do that next week. My dad is in the same league, but a different division. It looks like he will be taking out the overall high scorer this week. If we both make it past next week, we'll be playing each other in the Super Bowl.

Good luck to you in your playoffs.

I made the playoffs in my pay league, which starts this week, only 4 team make. It was been a really odd season, i started off winning my first 2 weeks, then i lost 5 in a row, now i am currently on a 7 game winning streak.

I have Kurt Warner against the Minnesota defense in my first-round playoff game.

I'm thinking lotsa points.

I would appreciate any advice for the rest of my squad. I'm thinking the Philly D might score some too.

102-32

I'm not completely ignorant, I had strengths in other areas. Matt Ryan getting me 41 points also helped. :) This week, I'm facing DeAngelo Williams. I'm much more nervous this week than I was last week. I'm stronger at QB and TE than he is. He's got the Steelers D, and I've got the Ravens. We're pretty even at WR. I need to find out about Jacobs injury.

Obviously her dad helped her to get this far.

Back when Palmer was considered good and able to play. I was debating whether or not to play him over Favre. Dad just mentioned that he probably would. I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. The following morning, we got up and left for Arrowhead. Upon listening to the post-game show on the way home, we learned that Palmer ended up not playing, and Favre would have gotten me 61 points. I ended up loseing that game by 40 points. I've learned not to lean too much on my dad's opinions. If I'm gonna goof up, I don't want to have to blame him. :)

Heh, yep. I am feeling really good about benching him this week. I also benched Lance Moore, which is looking like a good move as well so far. I am in the first round of the playoffs this weekend in my league. 6 team league, so only 1 week of playoffs, with winners playing for championship next week. I am the #1 seed at 11-3. Next closest was 8-6. The guy I am playing this week is 5-7-2, but he did hand me one of my 3 losses, so I know he can do it again.

I think you have the best lineup you can. With your running backs, you are obviously going to have to wait to the last minute to see if Barber or Jacobs start. At least you have the handcuff for both, so you can start the one that plays. I would be tempted to start Favre over Ryan, just because Favre is a HOF'er and Ryan is a rookie. But do what you think. This is the playoffs, and I wouldn't want you to lose because you took my advice.

He may be a HOF'er, but he's been very inconsistent this year, and his down swing just seems to keep going. Matt is doing quite well for me. He's consistent, and tends to do better each week, on average.

Looks like your nemesis was right except that instead of your father you're looking for help from some anonymous dudes on the internet. :p

Yes, I think you have your best lineup, with the possible exception of Barber depending on what his injury status is. Since he's a gametime decision and since his game is a night game, I'd go with Choice. Choice will have a role whether Barber starts or not, but if Barber can't go and you have him in your lineup you're hosed.

I did end up going with choice. While Barber is playing, I had heard that he would probably be limited.

Here's my current scenario:

I'm up by 24. I have Choice and Ward in, and he has Boss. We will both be done after this game.

I'm trying to just be cautiously optimistic.

I almost did the same thing. I had Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas. I went with Thomas because I wasn't sure Bush was truly healthy. I literally had it ready to submit with Bush just up until game time and left it alone. I almost second guessed myself out of that all those points. Would have cost me this weeks game.

I'm not pissed at all, I'm disappointed that I actually had 2 RB's finally show up, and my WR's take a nap. I mean really, when the other team score 165 points you need to have everyone put up a good chunk a points. This is pretty much a game of luck after all. I'm really to the point I would quit the last 2 leagues I am in, except for I have been in them so long and it is hard to find decent people to replace them with.

My game is still ongoing thanks to Andre Johnson blowing up today

My opponent has 59.6 with Braylon and Eagles D

I have 98.2 with Akers

Eagles D scares the living crap outta me hosting a pitiful Browns club and we also have -3 for any missed FG and -5 for a missed XP so I need Akers to be on when his chances come.

I did find out why our playoffs started a week early. Apparently, in the past, there were several times when some people's players didn't play. Not due to injury, but due to teams resting their starters that had already won a playoff bid. Owners decided to take the option to start the playoffs a week early in order to try to cut back on this kind of thing happening.

I'm a little shaky about my RBs. I've got Tomlinson (@ Tampa) and Larry Johnson but at the moment Forte and Brown are it.

If Chicago smacks Green Bay I'll be a couple hundred richer.

Looks good. If Gore isn't 100% I go with Turner. Also, I would probably start Bowe over Moore.

Thanks Delano. My wide receivers have been up and down all year. Berrian has been on fire lately, and is a free agent in my league. I am considering grabbing him for my third.

Last year I won it all with a 5-8 record #8 seed in the playoffs.

This year, I'm 5-8 again 8 seed and in the champ game playing the 6-7 #7 seed.

Everbody is pissed.

Edit: Well, not everybody.

OK I'm in the Championship game and would like some advice.

QB: Warner or Rivers - I'm leaning Warner with all of his weapons but he's on the road in the cold.

RB: I have Michael Turner who gets one start, my other backs are Willie Parker, Larry Johnson, LeRon McLlain or Cedric Benson.

I'm leaning to Parker with Albert Haynesworth out and the Steelers have been resting him.

Nice call. I went ahead and cockblocked my opponent and picked up Pierre Thomas. Good move because I think I'm going to start that saint sonofabitch.

My nemesis has Le'Ron McClain starting now.

I've got Jacobs, Ward, Barber, and Choice.

Three out of the four of those have medical +'s next to their names. Ugh! I started Choice over Barber last week, which ended up being a smart move. Now, Ward is injured, and Jacobs is a maybe. I could pick up Bradshaw, but he's just coming back from injury as well.

I may have already lost my game this week. My opponent had Peyton Manning and Dwight Clark playing tonight. That will equate to about 40 points from just 2 players. I have a big deficit to overcome.

Yeah, I was counting on my opponent having a mediocre night with Garrard as his QB and then the bastard goes and throws the ball all over the field and rushes for a TD (counts twice as much as a passing TD in our league) instead of handing the ball to MJD. :cuss:

I swear some of these leagues have got to be a focking joke,I don't see how any of those qb's could be available unless you're in a 4 team league.

I'm playing for a $2500 grand prize...this is like the AFC Championship week...we have two 12 man leagues and the winner of each league square off in week 17 for the $2500 prize...if I win this week I'm guaranteed $1250 so I was pretty excited about having Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark combine for 70 points to start the week for me.

Too bad they are going to rest in week 17 if I make it! I hate Tony Dungy.

Anyways I have Brett Favre, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Steven Jackson, Jerricho Cotchery, Hines Ward, Matt Bryant and Tampa's D against Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, LDT, LJ, Berrian, Hester, Derrick Mason, Steve Smith, Shockey, Suisham and Dallas' D and I'm up 70 right now...

I think Dallas' D is going to have a HUGE night tonight...but if I get out of tonight with Mason + Dallas D not doing anything HUGE I should see a victory...70 points out of 3 guys is huge...70 points is enough to win 50% of the time...very weird scoring league...100 points should be a lock...one Favre to Cotchery TD and I should be in the clear...I think Tampa is going to destroy San Diego as well so I have Bryant and Tampa's D starting which should bode well...then I'll have to worry about that $2500 with no Peyton and crew which blows.

I swear some of these leagues have got to be a focking joke,I don't see how any of those qb's could be available unless you're in a 4 team league.

Yeah dude, I agree...I've been in this two league, 12 team per league FFL for a few years now...real strange scoring but you have to have 4 QB's, 5 RB's, 6 WR's, 2 TE's, 2 K's and 2 DEF on your squad at all time...it is really unique.

I try and grab two elite QB's every year right away...this year I drafted Peyton 3rd overall and Favre on the way back around...thinking I had two sure fire QB's that won't ever miss a game...

Then when teams with Bulger and Hasselbeck and Young etc... need a QB because they go down a pawn off my 2nd and 3rd tier guys for good players...

This year I made these trades:

Griese and Donnie Avery for scrub QB and Marvin Harrison.
Shaun Hill and Chad Johnson for scrub QB and Jerricho Cotchery.
Daunte Culpepper and Tony Scheffler for scrub QB and Dallas Clark.
I also traded Megatron for Steven Jackson which kind of bombed but could be huge these next two playoff weeks.

12 man league I ended up with a starting roster of...

Peyton Manning
Brett Favre
Steven Jackson
Ronnie Brown
Reggie Wayne
Jerricho Cotchery
Hines Ward
Marvin Harrison/Ted Ginn or Mark Bradley
Dallas Clark
Matt Bryant or Dan Carpenter
Tampa DEF or Indy DEF

with role players like Tim Hightower, Ricky Williams and Kevin Boss.

I put MOST of my eggs on the same teams, but I try to A) make sure my fantasy players are on playoff teams and B) diversification is overrated because if the Jets or Colts put up 28 points in a week I'm pretty much guaranteed a victory...and the Tampa duo of Bryant and their DEF was huge this year...

So far the first two playoff games the Indy players have PAID off HUGE dividends for me...and Steven Jackson had 9 points (which is a good total for RB in this league) playoff week 1...

Short Leash Hootie
12-20-2008, 08:29 AM
I had to start Ricky Williams over Marvin Harrison since Harrison didn't play...I'm hoping Brown/Williams duo scorches KC much like the Johnson/White duo early in the season.

I'm going to have an ugly lineup week 17 though...

Assuming the Colts rest...I'm looking at...

Favre
Brown
Jackson
Hightower
Cotchery
Ward (if he doesn't rest)
Ginn or Bradley (both of Ward rests)
Boss
Bryant
Carpenter
Bucs D (against OAK which could be 25+ points)

Pretty ugly week 17 roster...which is the problem in this league...I was thrilled around week 10 because I didn't forsee the typical Colts rest their starters for the last two weeks scenario happening...but then they rattled off 8 straight.

Anybody hear anything on Forte? I see he is questionable, and on Monday night, which makes me nervous about starting him this week. Gore is a game time decision, so he probably won't do much even if he plays. LT is intriguing after what Carolina did against Tampa Bay. I am definitely starting Pierre Thomas. Turner is playing that stout Minn D, but Williams being out should help. My championship is on the line. Who do I start?

Tonight's game helped a bit. My opponent had Dallas D. That 33 points by Baltimore hurt him. Witten had a good night, that helped me. After Thursdays game he was up 42-16 over me becuase he played Manning and Clark, and I played Wayne. Wittens 14 tonight along with his Dallas D and Nick Folk still has me trailing 55-30. Remaining we have:

Me
McNabb, Welker, Bowe, P. Thomas, Forte, Bironas, and Pitt D.

Him:
Marshall, S. Moss, A. Bryant, Westbrook and D. Williams

Still quite a bit to overcome, but at least I have 2 more players left to play than he does. I think it will probably come down to Forte on Monday night.
