Finally a good wrestling movie! So far this movie has 100% on Rottentomatoes with 47 reviews submitted so far. It won best film at the Venice Film Festival and Mickey Rourke has received a Golden Globe nomination for best actor. It is coming out today in a very limited release but I imagine it will go open in many more cities once word gets around.

For the wrestling fans out there, two of Rourke's opponents in the movie were Ernest Miller and Necro Butcher. They filmed a lot of stuff at a Ring of Honor and I think some at a CZW show. Here is the trailer:

Look Bart, barring a preference we're going to put you on a wrestling picture, Wallace Beery. I say this because they tell me you know the poetry of the streets, so that would rule out westerns, pirate pictures, screwball, bible, roman... look, I'm not one of those guys who thinks poetic has got to be fruity. We're together on that aren't we? I mean I'm from New York myself, well, Minsk if you want to go all the way back. Which we won't, if you don't mind and I ain't asking. Now people are going to say to you, Wallace Beery, wrestling, it's a B picture. You tell them: BULLSHIT! We do NOT make B pictures here at Capitol. Let's put a stop to that rumour RIGHT now!

I just saw it last night.

It is a very good movie, but extremely heavy, and there's definitely more than enough cliches in it.

I recommend it, but I wouldn't expect to walk out feeling chipper.

Surprisingly poignant justification for bewbies

The more we thought about it, the more we realized the connections between the stripper and the wrestler were really significant. They both have fake stage names, they both put on costumes, they both charm an audience and create a fantasy for the audience, and they both use their body as their art, so time is their biggest enemy.
