I haven't been paying attention to Google Maps much lately, but I was messing around with it tonight and noticed that they've changed their software. Most notably, the street view feature works MUCH better now. And you can embed stuff. Like this.

<iframe width="425" height="240" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/sv?cbp=12,284.600294191926,,0,0.1283596834724603&amp;cbll=39.049507,-94.475618&amp;panoid=&amp;v=1&amp;hl=en&amp;gl=us"></iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Arrowhead+Stadium,+Kansas+City,+Jackson,+Missouri+64129&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;hl=en&amp;cd=1&amp;geocode=Ff7YUwIdr0 he-g&amp;sll=37.0625,-95.677068&amp;sspn=23.875,57.630033&amp;ll=39.04947,-94.484306&amp;spn=0.011029,0.014281&amp;layer=c&amp;cbll=39.049507,-94.475618&amp;panoid=erBCv_Qb9tw6SNYyhxK97g&amp;cbp=12,284.600294191926,,0,0.1283596834724603&amp;source=embed" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map</a></small>

But what's perhaps even crazier is how far they've gone with the Street View feature. They've had the major metros on there for a while now, but now they've even got a ton of small towns and country roads now. Here's a screen shot that should give you the idea:

http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/1500/streetviewrq6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Anyway, there's really not a point to this thread. I'm just amazed at how much work they must be going through to literally drive every road in the country to generate these.

Who are these people that click on these little internet ads? I've never in my ENTIRE life clicked on an internet ad or a popup (unless it was porn) I don't see how google adsense makes money in the long run, but I knew a guy in college that made alot of dough doing that, so I guess it has to work. I just don't quite understand it

Google hires people at minimum wage to click on them all day.

The second is that he will do the design for free but is allowed to place ONE google ad per page.

He will make much more money with the google ad.

pretty sure it wouldn't matter much unless you had a substantial amount to invest the first time around.

They're working on some other stuff right now too.

The KML language they use for their map files is starting to be implemented by local agencies, and I think at some point, you'll start seeing more local information/data published too.
