So are you objecting to the way I have understood the meaning of "white trash?" If so, that's a different debate from what the aim of this thread is. On this very forum I have quite often seen references to people like Billy Ray Cyrus and such as "white trash." Even by some of the very people who are now objecting to my use of it for Sarah Palin. While BRC does not totally fit the definition that you have posted here you guys accept the term used in his case. In other words someone like BRC is fair game because in the 80s or 90s he sported a mullet and his music was not hip. My application of this term to Palin and his family is no less valid than everybody else's application of it to BRC. It's a "class" reference that I DID NOT INVENT. It is supposed to underline one's behavior, and not his/her socio-economic place in this world. However where you and I liked Obama and what he stood for A LOT more than the alternative. I did vote for him in the general wishing really that Hillary was the head of the ticket. Obama became an acceptable second choice for me while the McCain/Palin ticked I considered potentially dangerous for this country and for the world. So my decision was far far from a sexist decision.

Since qualifications for the job were a sticking point for Palin, I'd expect a lot of the same for Ms. Kennedy. I'm not sure hosting "The Kennedy Honors ..." is really a good resume builder for being appointed to a Senate seat. It seems to me it's just a way to keep a legacy alive without having to go through an election.

I never said she was. I always wanted to see her run for public office because I believed that some day she could end up being a good public official but that does not mean I think she should just be given a senate seat. No way.

But I'm not about to gloss over the fact that we have chosen for POTUS a man who had 143 days of experience as a US senator. If Caroline Kennedy is lacking those 20 weeks of experience for a lesser office then it should not be a big issue.

With the exception of a few very stupid questions asked of Palin about how she could be a Mom and a VP. I didn't think She or Hillary were treated any worse than average. Both the Republicans and Democrats have people that actually get paid to twist and mangle the truth to such a degree that it is unrecognizable. Having said that I would say McCain and Obamma being the leaders of their two parties were slightly less shitty that normal in the last election but the bar isn't set very high.
