I guess I don't see the big deal but I am a Obot as they say.

1. Does he not deserve to take a vacation? He has worked his ass off for 20+ months with little or no time off.

2. Of course he is going to fly charter do you think the SS would allow him to fly in coach on Southwest?

3. He doesn't own the mansion he is renting it and I am sure the reason being is because of its privacy.

4. I think you are still have a bad case of sour grapes. There is medicine for that.

Pitching his message to Oregon's environmentally-conscious voters, Obama called on the United States to "lead by example" on global warming, and develop new technologies at home which could be exported to developing countries.

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

Ummm... he didn't.

The last thing we want in a recession threatening to tip into a depression is for American's to futher decrease spending if they don't have to.

We need everyone who can afford it, to spend, spend, spend.

It's not THE only solution, but it's part of it.

This thread just demonstrates further that denise has lost a willingness to even consider reality, when it comes to Obama. What a sad sack she's become.

Beat me to it.

Yes, Denise, all the rich people of our country need to rein in their spending, start living off of Campbell's soup, cancel all their vacations, and bury their money in mason jars in the back yards. That will cure the economy and the environment!

If you want to cry about him not buying carbon credits or something to offset his chartering of the jet, then that's a legitimate beef. Your argument is just freaking stupid, Denise.

By the way, did you ever outline your benchmarks for success for an Obama administration? I'm just curious if you're going to bitch and moan regardless of what he does, or if there are actually some possibilities of his administration whereby you would judge it a success? I'm pretty sure I already know the true answer to my question, but it would be entertaining to see you try to hedge your bets, anyway.

How the hell does the price of the mansion matter? It's a vacation. Would you care less if it was only a $5 million mansion? $3 million?
Should people stop going to nice places even if they can afford to? Should the Obamas go on vacation in the Ozarks instead to make the rest of us feel better?

This is just utterly inane.

Well, because the price of the home directly relates to the rental price. I think I read that this home is $3,500/night.

It would be less ostentatious, sure. That being said, I've no problem with Obama spending his money (assuming he is). He's rich. It's his money.

The quote that mememe gave is somewhat scolding of our luxuries (compared to other countries), however.

If it's his money then he should not be scolding anyone else for spending THEIR money in ways they see fit. That would mean driving SUVs, eating what they want, and heating their homes in ways that make them comfortable.

To do so would be hypocritical, IMO.

Obama could end falling way short of what he's striving to be, and end up just another Bill Clinton.

How crazy is that? She's absolutely shitting herself because Obama might ultimately have the audacity to be little more the Bill Clinton 2.

What's interesting is that his win in November gives her the luxury of tossing out an unreachable standard and bitching relentlessly over absolutely nothing.

It's amazing what freedom comes with the promise of a Democrat in office and the end of the error that was 2000-2008.

Actually, a better analogy would be the CEO's of the big 3 automakers in DC begging for a bailout while their private jets await on the tarmac. It's the same disconnect and sense of entitlement. The elite living high and mighty while the rest of the country ponders economic disaster.

NObama just has a honeymoon period that makes him immune from the appearance of hypocrisy...

If I was to go with my family skiing in switzerland for a fortnight (for example) we'd probably end up spending at least half that, and I dare say we don't have half the means that Barry does.

You poor confused soul...There is medicine for that.

There is no confusion (or hypocrisy) because that story was not TRUE. :D

See, we are supposed to just go along and pretend that if it were a REPUBLICAN P.E. doing this during a time of national economic crisis that the DEMS would be A-OK with it. :doh!:

No, no you're not. In fact, I demand that you and your brethren Nation/World-Wide keep up your unrelenting douchebaggery every day of Barack Obama's Presidency.

Why?

When President Obama's eight-year term is over, and the foundation for a better America has been laid, and the Country has begun it's return to economic stability and foreign policy SANITY; I want every member of the informed American Electorate to look your way and say "Those idiots really were full of shit"! Thus securing eternal obscurity for you and yours.

Make it happen!

We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon.
I'm not sure how much our plane cost...but it was a big fuggin plane.

However, I'd venture to say the property we stayed on was FAR more expensive than the place Obama is slummin' at now.

Same thing. His money just like you purchased your chicken salad with your money. You could have went cheaper, just chose not to.

As far as contortion, perhaps you might look in the mirror. Every single topic on obama after the election by you is "you were wrong look see" and the are all merit less abortions of threads. I'm starting to believe your next useless thread will be about Obama not wiping his ass with his hand and wasting toilet paper when he told you to cut back.

But hey, you sure are cutting edge cool. You make Big Daddy look like a rocket scientist.

He didn't pay $9M for the house, he is renting it. It is a vacation rental, people rent it all the time.

I live in a condo in Hawaii. The building my condo in is worth more than $9 million. I'm not rich.

This ain't Pigknuckle, Arkansas. Everything is expensive.

The house he is staying in has many advantages for him. It is gated, in an area that is easy to protect. It is in an area where he won't inconvenience people. Are you familiar with Oahu? I've lived here 17 years so I am.

There is no hotel on this island that he could stay at that wouldn't seriously inconvenience a lot of people. Most of our hotels are in Waikiki. Have you ever seen the traffic in Waikiki? Having his motorcade going into and out of Waikiki would snarl traffic here for HOURS. A freakin stalled car can snarl traffic here for hours. It took me 1 1/2 hours to go a half mile from Ala Moana Center to Waikiki last Friday evening - without Obama on the island.

The only other hotels on the island adequate for him have their own issues. If he stayed at Ko Olina Resort on the south west corner of the island his motorcade would have to go on the H1 freeway through the H1/H2 interchange and Pearl City/Aiea area to get anywhere. That is the worst traffic on the island, and some of the worst I've ever experienced - and I've lived in California and the D.C. beltway area. Traffic on the whole island would come to a standstill if he stayed there. I can't even describe how bad traffic would be if he went through there even once a day.

If he stayed at Turtle Bay on the North shore he would snarl traffic on Kam highway - a two lane road that is already a parking lot this time of year because of the tourists going to see the big waves.

There really isn't anywhere else on the island adequate for him to stay, except other multi-million dollar mansions.

The house he chose is perfect. His plane can land at Kaneohe Marine Corp Base, and it is a short trip to the house, without having to go through any major roads. He never has to get on a freeway, or take a major commuter route, or even a business or shopping district. He literally only has to go a mile on small lightly traveled streets. He wouldn't have any affect on traffic.

Seriously, it isn't the same thing. We have limited choices here as to routes to take. There is ocean around the island and mountains in the interior. The roads have to go through the narrow corridor between the two. Denver is flat and spread out. There are many alternate routes to take. There are none here. If you, like many here, work in town and live in Ewa there is only one way to get there - H1. If it gets tied up you have no other way to get home.

I will never understand you. The old saying is you have to stand for something or you will fall for anything. I did not vote for Obama but he is my President and I will support him. I now hope my party will wake up and work with him and develop a front runner to compete with the Dems next election.

You turn your back on your party because your girl lost. I guess it is like you jumping on the Raiders bandwagon over Gannon. That struck me as very odd but it is just a game. This is much more serious. You should be backing Obama because he is your President and he is from your party. Lady you are one of those people who make me shake my head while saying wow!

This is stupid because he's not even on the job yet. Until President Obama spends a month on vacation while simultaneously ignoring intelligence that points to a terrorist attack on the United States you really can't make this comparison.

Why is a vacation a bad thing if he hasn't started the job yet? If I was about to take a new very stressful job I would want to take a vacation first. I don't see why anyone would think this is a bad thing, UNLESS THEY ARE BLINDED BY PARTISANSHIP.

Democrats complained about Bush taking a month long vacation a few months after taking office. That is very different from taking a vacation before you even start the job.
